The Surprising Reason King Charles Got Frustrated At Camilla

In the past few years, several celebrities have been caught getting angry and frustrated on camera, usually because they didn’t realize they were being recorded. However, you don’t expect this to happen to the Royal Family: from birth, each member of this rich and powerful family understands that they will be under media scrutiny at all times.

However, King Charles–the most famous monarch of them all–still manages to get angry on camera quite a bit. Most recently, this happened with Queen Camilla, and the world got another glimpse of the true King Charles he tries to hide behind a polite mask.

What did Queen Camilla do to make Charles frustrated and angry? And what does it say about the most powerful monarch in the world? Keep reading to discover the answer!

It all started with a big day for King Charles

One of the reasons that the Royal Family is so accustomed to media scrutiny is that they make so many public appearances by attending ceremonies all around the world. And this story starts with just such a ceremony: on July 5, King Charles made a visit to Edinburgh, Scotland. By all accounts, this was going to be a very special day for King Charles because he was being presented with Scotland’s crown jewels during Holyrood week.

These jewels hold special cultural and historic significance, and they are known as the Honours of Scotland. And at first, it looked like everything was going to be very straightforward: Charles and his family would attend a church ceremony at St Giles’ Cathedral and then a royal ceremony at Scotland’s Palace of Holyroodhouse.

On paper, the day was going to be all about Charles. But it didn’t take long before all anyone could talk about was Queen Camilla’s surprising struggle with a very unconventional foe: her own car.

Queen Camilla vs….a car?

Even though famous royals like Queen Elizabeth enjoyed driving themselves from time to time, the Royal Family, as a rule, have drivers take them wherever they need to go. So when Charles, Camilla, and the rest of the family were headed to the palace for the second ceremony, they were being driven in a spacious state Bentley.

However, as onlookers soon discovered, the Bentley might have been a bit too spacious. Queen Camilla seemed to struggle to get out, which caused King Charles to become visibly frustrated. At one point, Charles gets one of his staff to open the other car door in hopes of getting Camilla out faster, but by this point, she has almost made it out of the other door.

Amid all this, it was difficult not to focus on just how frustrated Charles looked. Interestingly, his frustration would have stood out less if his son wasn’t having the complete opposite reaction!

Prince William was a stark contrast from his father

Prince William and Kate Middleton also attended these Scottish ceremonies, though they didn’t travel in the same car as Charles and Camilla. Instead, they arrived in a Range Rover shortly after Charles and Camilla did. Because of this, they had a perfect view of Camilla’s difficulties getting out of the Bentley.

While most of the footage of that day focused on Camilla’s difficulties and Charles’ growing frustration, some of it also captured Prince William’s reaction to the whole thing. And William had the reaction most of us would probably have to our mother-in-law having difficulty getting out of the car: laughter!

Honestly, it probably would have been a bad look if Charles had laughed at his wife’s difficulties at that moment. But we can’t deny that William has the face of all of us as he watches everything unfold.

King Charles’ ‘rollercoaster’ temper

King Charles’ frustrated response to Camilla’s difficulties probably wouldn’t have gotten so much attention if his quick temper wasn’t well-documented. For example, Charles went viral in the worst way last year thanks to footage of him getting frustrated at a tray of pens that impeded his ability to sign some official documents. He gestured for the tray to be taken away in a manner that only be described as “seriously angry.” Two days later, he had another pen-related outburst when the pen he was using began to leak on his hand.

This latest incident isn’t even the first time in recent history he has gotten angry and frustrated with Camilla. As reported by Newsweek, Charles and Camilla were touring the Wrexham A.F.C. soccer club in February, and Charles got annoyed that his wife was spending too much time with the crowds. He went so far as to verbally complain to his aides, “Please. We need to go! I was trying to wait for her. But she goes on!”

At this point, those aides probably get downright dizzy dealing with Charles’ temper. Newsweek also reports that Valentine Low revealed the surprising nature of the king’s anger in an update to his book Courtiers. “He can vent his fury when things go wrong with his schedule, or when he feels that his instructions have not been obeyed, only to calm down moments later when he is assured that his instructions have been followed to the letter after all,” he writes.

Allegedly, Charles becomes a completely different person once he gets his way. “‘’Oh, thank you so much,’…the very image of gratitude and contrition. It is a rollercoaster ride, and those close to the king are used to it.”
