Did Meghan Markle Marry Prince Harry to Become the Next Princess Diana?

When Prince Harry married Meghan Markle, it came as a shock to the world. After all, it seemed unthinkable that a member of the Royal Family would marry an American actor. And even before these two tied the knot, family members such as Harry’s brother William allegedly expressed concerns over Meghan’s motivations for entering the Royal Family.

Harry pushed back against these accusations, of course, which is one of the reasons these two have become so estranged. However, now that many royal experts have had a chance to analyze Meghan’s actions over the years, more and more have decided that William was right all along.

More startlingly, one expert claims that all along, Meghan’s secret goal in marrying Harry was to become the next Princess Diana. What was the rest of her explosive claim, and just how many receipts are there concerning Meghan’s true motivations? Keep reading to find out!

Meghan’s real motivations for marrying into the Royal Family?

When she appeared on TalkTV, royal expert Sarah Robertson didn’t hold back on the topic of Meghan Markle. Regarding the Duchess, the expert said that, “thought marrying into the royal family was going to elevate her to a status of what Princess Diana had — to be the most famous woman in the world, the most talked-about woman in the world, who everyone wants to be affiliated with.”

Ouch! What brought about these accusations, though? Robertson was commenting on the fact that Harry and Meghan had recently lost their Spotify deal, allegedly because Meghan couldn’t snag the guests Spotify wanted: “A-listers like Taylor Swift and Katy Perry.” Rather than accept blame for dropping this particular ball, Robertson claims the royal duo “refuse to take any responsibility for this” and that ”they think it is the wicked media sowing seeds of dissent.”

A startling attempt at a name change

At first, claiming that Meghan desperately wants to be considered the next Princess Diana might sound a bit crazy. But it certainly sounds less crazy in light of this recent development: as reported by the Express, the two have reportedly begun to “discuss ditching Windsor surname for Diana’s” so that they can “closer align themselves with the late Princess Diana.”

If true, this would be a startling change: it would put even further distance between the couple and the rest of the Royal Family (and that’s saying something since they crossed an ocean to get away from Charles, William, and the rest of the crew). And it’s hard not to see this as a cynical attempt to rebrand themselves in the hopes of securing more contracts like their failed Spotify deal.

Meghan’s odd history of copying Princess Diana’s most iconic looks

In addition to rebranding themselves in the quest to for more money, taking on the Spencer name would help Meghan in her alleged quest to be more like Princess Diana. And if you don’t believe she’s been on such a quest, all you have to do is take a look back at her wardrobe over the years.

For example, on Commonwealth Day in March 2019, Meghan wore a green coat that was obviously inspired by one previously worn by Diana. And when Meghan attended the 2018 Anzac Day service in London, royal fans immediately noticed that her black, wide-brimmed hat looked exactly like Diana’s iconic Philip Somerville hat. And Meghan’s blue-and-white floral Oscar de la Renta dress she wore when attending a wedding was a clear homage to what Diana wore during a trip to Saudi Arabia in 1986.

Over the years, we mostly assumed these fashion homages were a way of getting on Harry’s good side…Freud would likely have agreed that one surefire way to win Harry over is to dress like his mom. Now, it looks like Meghan’s real goal all along might have been to simply become the next Princess Diana whom the world couldn’t help but fall in love with.

Where did it all go wrong for Meghan Markle?

The Express reports that royal guru Tom Bower thinks the whole idea of taking Diana’s name and generally rebranding themselves came from Meghan rather than Harry. If they go through with it, “she’d be Meghan Spencer–the new Diana.”

However, if this really is an attempt at rebranding the two of themselves, the controversial couple may discover that all of this is effectively too little, too late. They only need to rebrand themselves because they spurned the Royal Family on purpose. The public was so sympathetic to Diana in large part because she was perceived as a victim: Charles cheated on her and it seems like other royals shunned her when she needed help.

Meghan shared similar stories of being shunned in her and Harry’s bombshell Oprah interview, but ever since “Megxit,” it looks for all the world like she and Harry are on the offensive against their own family. They aren’t afraid to spill royal secrets and air dirty family laundry if it means making them more famous or helping them to secure another media deal, and that’s not exactly winning many people over. The blunt truth is that Diana would never have stooped so low, and this is why we know that Meghan will never be the next Princess Diana.
