For the most part, Meghan Markle is known for her prim and pretty appearance. We’d expect nothing less, really, as she was a TV megastar long before she met Prince Harry. That means that she was already accustomed to looking her best for auditions and red carpet premieres before marrying into the Royal Family and taking her wardrobe to a whole new level. Long story short? Between her experience and her enviable shopping budget, Megan usually looks like a rockstar whenever she is photographed in public.
Of course, the word doing the heaviest lifting there is “usually.” Meghan is only human, and like all of us, she has made some major fashion mistakes in her time. When we make a fashion faux pas, though, the worst thing that happens is that a few of our friends burn us for how bad we look. Since Meghan has the eyes of the world on her, every fashion mistake is documented by both fans and haters all around the world.
Are you more of a Meghan fan or a hater? Either way, we’ve got you covered. Keep reading to learn all about Meghan Markle’s most royally awful outs!
Girl, fire your tailor!
Meghan Markle is naturally very beautiful, but it takes a small army to prepare her killer looks for major public performances. For example, she needed a good tailor to bring to life the Carolina Herrera she debuted at a gala in 2021. Unfortunately, a good tailor was nowhere to be found, and whoever she ended up asking basically did Meghan dirty through their sloppy and careless work.
The first way he did so is by not adjusting the pleats…the way they land directly on Meghan’s breasts makes them look like protruding nipples. On top of that, the tailor failed to slim this dress down for either its first appearance or its 2024 reappearance. In both cases, Meghan looked frumpy to the max, as if she was a wine mom wearing last night’s dress to an event and simply hoping that nobody noticed.

Bizarre christening outfits
Sometimes, Meghan Markle is caught between a rock and a hard place…or at least, caught between public expectation and private requirements. As a member of the Royal Family, she can’t wear whatever she wants to various events. Instead, she must abide by protocol. Following that protocol may mean forgoing a cute look or two, but breaking that protocol means angering people all around the world.
For example, she wore a beautiful Dior dress to her son Archie’s christening in 2019, but this broke a protocol that states that royals are meant to wear British designs to such major events. The year before, she wore an olive green dress to Prince Louis’ christening, breaking a protocol that instructed royal women to wear gentler and more muted colors. In each case, Meghan generated speculation around the world that she was trying to forcefully make these the major events of others all about herself.
Lots of royal wrinkles
Sometimes, Meghan Markle makes a fashion faux pas that is likely less her fault and rather the fault of her demanding schedule. For example, everything from family vacations to royal duties to entrepreneurial opportunities requires her to frequently travel all over the world. And that starts to have an effect on her wardrobe regardless of how cute the clothing is.
In this case, the main effect is a wrinkled look. In appearance after appearance, she sports some seriously wrinkled duds. Look back and even her own wedding dress was wrinkled! To some, this is a sign that Meghan is just a chill gal who doesn’t sweat the small stuff. To others, though, this is persistent evidence that Meghan doesn’t take her royal position and responsibilities as seriously as she probably should.

All jeans, no joy
Real talk: around here we love jeans and would wear them all the time if we could get away with it. Sadly, we learned long ago that there are some occasions that are just too formal for us to sport a comfy pair of jeans. Meghan Markle apparently never got that memo and just keeps wearing jeans when she shouldn’t, a decision that once backfired on her in a very spectacular way.
According to Us Weekly, Prince Harry wrote that Meghan was wearing jeans when she met Queen Elizabeth for the first time. They didn’t plan to meet the Queen that day, and running into her caused Meghan instant regret. “I could see Meg regretting her jeans and black sweater,” Harry wrote.
Even when Meghan isn’t meeting fancy royals, she still manages to upset in jeans. For example, when she wore a pair to Wimbledon in 2019, critics couldn’t help but ask if she was taking the event as seriously as she should.
