Do you have any younger siblings? If so, you know all too well how much the baby of the family typically gets spoiled. And, worse yet, how much the youngest often gets attention at the expense of his older relatives.
Interestingly, though, that hasn’t really been the case with Prince William and Kate Middleton’s children. We see plenty of oldest child George and middle kid Charlotte, but appearances from Louis are few and far between. That was enough to make us ask the big question: just why do we hardly ever see this little royal?
We found an answer, and it’s one that will shock you. Don’t believe it? Keep reading to discover the surprising reason we rarely see Prince Louis in public!
Keeping Prince Louis out of the public eye
Neither Prince William nor Kate Middleton have made any official statements about why we see relatively little of Prince Louis. However, royal expert Lizzie Robinson has a theory that seems to make the most sense. As reported by The Mirror, she claims that the parents have “been really careful to manage how they’ve done it and what they’ve taken [the children] to.” Rather than just cart all of the kids to every major shindig, “They’ve considered each event on a case-by-case basis.”
What does that tell us about Louis, though, and the events he has previously missed? “The fact that Louis wasn’t taken suggests that they are considering what they think is right for each child at what time,” Robinson said. She’s convinced that Louis won’t stay relatively hidden from us forever, though: “his time will come.”

Not exactly a recluse
You may have noticed that we describe Louis’ lack of camera appearances as being “relatively” hidden. There’s a reason for that: while the young prince doesn’t make it out to as many events as his older siblings, he hasn’t exactly been a recluse. In fact, it wasn’t that long ago that he attended a very high-profile event with his mother and sister.
Specifically, Louis attended Wimbledon with Kate Middleton and Charlotte. He didn’t get as much attention as Charlotte, whose photos made her seem much more like a precocious little girl rather than a prestigious royal. Of course, our expectations may have been too high for the simple reason that Louis has made some insanely memorable appearances at various royal events.
Fun appearances at royal events
One of the most ironic things about Prince Louis is that the world could have easily overlooked how little he gets in front of the cameras. If he was mostly staid and proper like his brother George, for example, we might never notice whether he was attending an event or not. But the thing about Louis is that when he does attend an event, he does so in a hilariously memorable way.
For example, King Charles was coronated in May 2023, and this was arguably one of the most important events in royal history. However, it didn’t exactly keep Louis engaged…he was busted very publicly yawning, letting the world know just how boring he found this entire royal affair. Later in that same ceremony, he was meant to sing the lyrics “God save the King” along with everyone else, but he accidentally sang “God save the Queen” instead. Even Louis, it seems, is still getting over the death of Elizabeth!
The prince was in even finer form at the Trooping the Colour event earlier this year. Cameras caught him yawning, dancing, playing with cords, and generally behaving like a bored child rather than a future leader of England.

A history of making scenes
Prince Louis acting out at these events was funny and memorable, but it wasn’t exactly unexpected. That’s because the young royal has a rich history of making scenes at major events. And the most infamous of these was how he acted at Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
He kept acting a fool during this event, and like longsuffering mothers everywhere, Kate tried to calm him down and get him to stop making a scene. But Louis ignored her and at one point even shushed her in a moment that made headlines all around the world.
Kate Middleton is a perfectly understanding mother
After her son embarrassed and even shushed her while the world was watching, you might expect Kate Middleton to be furious at her youngest son. In reality, however, she has proven to be the most patient mother when it comes to her son’s behavior.
As reported by Ok!, a source close to Kate claims that “Louis is an energetic child and clearly was unable to contain his excitement at being at a public event.” As for his mother, the future Queen “doesn’t worry about their behavior too much. She loves to see them being kids.” Plus, the insider insists that “She keeps Louis in line when needed,” so it’s not like he is running roughshod over his parents.
He’s just not running around in front of the cameras that much. And given his young age and his parents’ desire for him to have privacy, that’s perfectly fine!
