Barack Obama has many different skills. However, one of his most unappreciated skills was handling the media and avoiding scandals. In looking back at his presidency, it seems his biggest media faux pas was wearing a tan suit that one time.
Unfortunately, his daughters didn’t fully inherit these skills in managing media and handling public appearances. And this has led to plenty of media moments the Obama sisters probably wish never happened.
Here are just a few of the most shocking moments Sasha and Malia Obama probably wish were never captured by the media.
Malia Obama was allegedly caught at a beer pong game while underage
Fair warning: Malia Obama is going to be on this list quite a bit. That’s because, between the Obama sisters, she seems to be the true “wild child.”
Arguably, this all started in 2015 when Malia was visiting Brown University during a college tour. She snuck in a little tour of campus parties while she was there. And this resulted in social media pictures of her next to a table full of red cups. The above photo is from a Snapchat (via The Daily Caller).
This led to many claims on Twitter by people who claimed to be there. Some of these claims included Malia playing beer pong and taking shots. And while those claims were never verified, the image of her at this party would kick off many years of wild Malia scandals.

Sasha Obama was caught stanning Ryan Reynolds
Unlike Malia, most of Sasha’s “embarrassing” moments are a bit more endearing. Or, at the very least, moments that most of us can relate to.
For example, this is an image of Sasha going 100% fangirl over Ryan Reynolds. The Deadpool star was visiting a 2016 state dinner when Sasha got some facetime with one of her Hollywood favorites.
While the entire world would eventually laugh at this moment, Malia got a sneak peek at the humor. Notice she is in the background, giving her sister a not-so-secret thumbs up!
Malia was allegedly caught playing beer pong… again
One of the rules of being famous is that even a single unwanted photo can damage your career. Unfortunately, this is a rule that it took Malia a while to learn.
One year after the infamous Brown University beer pong incident, another photo surfaced. This photo was from a house party in Maryland. And, in a true déjà vu moment, we see Malia standing next to yet another table of cups and beer cans.
Once more, we don’t know what Malia did or did not do during this party. But the president’s underage daughter next to a bunch of beer was a bad look, and Malia went viral once again.

The Obama sisters got caught taking a humorous selfie
After Barack Obama became president, his daughters had to grow up very quickly. That’s because their every public appearance would be highly-scrutinized from now on.
However, they didn’t realize this right away. That’s why we have this hilarious pic of the two sisters taking selfies during the 2013 inaugural parade.
While some critics pretended to be shocked at the lack of decorum, others saw this as a real “teenagers will be teenagers” moment. And it’s oddly endearing to see how funny these two are when they don’t know the cameras are rolling.
Malia reportedly partied at Martha’s Vineyard
Not every Malia scandal involves a leaked photo. But in some cases, the events with no photo evidence sound even wilder!
That was the case with an alleged incident at Martha’s Vineyard. While the Obamas were on vacation in August 2016, it seems like Malia found her own fun. The police had to break up a crazy nearby party, and scuttlebutt was that Malia was in attendance.
The police never did confirm that Malia was there, according to the Boston Herald. However, sneaking off to a raging party seems to fit her party girl M.O.!

Barack Obama made Malia cry on camera
As with Sasha, not every embarrassing Malia moment is a shocking scandal. Some of these moments, in fact, are just shockingly human.
When Barack Obama gave his farewell speech in 2017, he called out his daughters in the best possible way.
“Malia and Sasha, under the strangest of circumstances, you have become two amazing young women, smart and beautiful, but more importantly, kind and thoughtful and full of passion,” he said. “You wore the burden of years in the spotlight so easily. Of all that I’ve done in my life, I’m most proud to be your dad.”
These words moved Malia to tears. And, we expect, quite a few other fathers and daughters to tears as well!
The Obama sisters were caught looking bored at a turkey pardoning
Needless to say, being a presidential daughter means attending many events you don’t want to go to. And this includes the bizarre annual ritual of “pardoning” a turkey at Thanksgiving.
Malia and Sasha were both in attendance during this event in 2014. However, neither girl was really feeling it, and they were photographed rolling their eyes and generally looking bored out of their minds.
While a bit embarrassing, the fallout from this didn’t go further than some toothless criticism. And let’s be honest: wouldn’t you be bored attending a turkey pardoning ceremony as well?

Malia causes a scandal at Lollapalooza
If you mention the words “scandal” and “Malia Obama,” there is one primary event most people think of. And that was when she was caught partying at the 2016 Lollapalooza.
Plenty of photos and videos show Malia, who had just graduated high school, twerking and showing off her body. And in one video, she is smoking what might be a joint.
Whether it was a joint or not was never proven, but the photos and videos were pretty embarrassing. Nonetheless, Malia got over it pretty quickly. That’s presumably why she was wearing a “Smoking Kills” T-shirt the very next day!
