Meghan Markle is one of those royals with a very rare gift: for better or for worse, she generates controversy wherever she goes. Sure, there are times that, like all of us, she says or does something pretty embarrassing. Most of the time, though, the writers behind so many of her most negative headlines seem like they are annoyed for no real reason at all. And that’s especially true when it comes to her new TV show.
You see, Meghan has a new series on Netflix called With Love, Meghan. The show is pretty good, but you wouldn’t know it thanks to the bevy of critics taking potshots at this royal’s latest creation. And because (real talk incoming) we kinda love Meghan Markle, we decided to set the record straight and let you know why this new television show is worth checking out.
Is this show going to be your new binge-watch favorite? All signs point to “yes!” Keep reading to discover why Meghan Markle’s new show is much better than the haters say!
The debut of Meghan Markle’s long-awaited show

Chances are that some of you clicked on this article while asking a simple question: “wait, Meghan Markle has a new TV show?!” Unless you’re steeped (like your favorite tea) in all things royal, it was easy to miss the release of With Love, Meghan. It came out in early March and received relatively little fanfare…far less than we’d expect from Netflix, a streamer who was once proud to have Harry and Meghan making content for them.
So, what happened here? There’s a chance that Netflix wanted to minimize the show because they feared blowback from any Meghan-related controversy. There’s also a chance that Meghan angered someone in charge at the company (it wouldn’t be the first time, go ask Spotify!). However, the safest bet is that Netflix minimized publicity for this new show because it got absolutely torn apart by most of the professional reviewers who saw it.

Critics dubbed this show a royal mess

We’ve already told you that professional critics savaged With Love, Meghan. Now, though, you’re probably wondering just how bad the reviews really are. We’ll put it to you this way: on the review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes, Meghan Markle’s new show has a 38 percent critical rating. That means that out of all the critics who watched the first season, only 38 percent think you should bother watching it. The score is particularly bad because Rotten Tomatoes won’t certify anything as “fresh” (meaning that it’s worth watching) unless it has a 60 percent score or more.
To make matters worse, the show’s first season has a 3/10 rating on IMDb, the Internet Movie Database. Like Rotten Tomatoes, this is a site that gathers a critical consensus on new films and shows. And the consensus on With Love, Meghan is that it’s not really watching.
Of course, we disagree with that consensus. And we’re going to tell you exactly why this new show is worth checking out.
What are viewers complaining about?

Before we get to why With Love, Meghan is secretly worth watching, we need to cover what the haters have to say. Why, exactly, do so many people hate this new series? Perhaps the most common criticism is that Meghan herself comes off as overly fake or performative. This is a series where she shows us how to bake, garden, host parties, and so on. And some think this is inauthentic coming from a rich royal who doesn’t really have to do any of this for herself if she doesn’t want to.
There are other criticisms, including the fact that a show that takes us into Meghan’s home doesn’t really go past her “happy hostess” persona. Arguably, though, the real reason so many hate this series is that a constant barrage of negative headlines over the years has conditioned them to just hate Meghan on sight. That’s a shame because in this case, the haters have denied themselves the pleasure of enjoying a really unique new show.

Why Meghan’s new show is good (and how she ultimately beat the haters)

Now, time to answer the big question: why should you stream With Love, Meghan on Netflix? For one thing, the title character has much to teach us. If you can get over any weird bias you might have against Meghan Markle, she really does have a lot of great tips to help you become a better homemaker, gardener, party host, and more.
Plus, Meghan naturally has plenty of charisma, and she is so charming onscreen that it’s easy to see why she became a television star in the first place. If you don’t believe us, believe Netflix: despite those poor critical reviews, the streamer has already renewed With Love, Meghan for a second season. As when Meghan and Harry first left England behind to come party like rockstars in America, it’s fair to say the Duchess managed to beat her haters once more, and we are so here for it!
