How Prince William and Kate Middleton Party When Nobody Is Watching

What if the most important members of the Royal Family were nothing like their reputation?

Out in public, Prince William and Kate Middleton often present a united front as a very serious duo. This seriousness is certainly befitting of the future King and Queen of England, and their solemn nature has often been contrasted with Prince Harry’s own history as a party boy. That’s certainly not the only major difference between William and Harry, but it’s a fairly big one.

But would you believe that behind closed doors, William and Kate know how to party harder than Harry ever did? It’s true: after their very formal wedding ceremony, these two royals attended a reception that was much looser and livelier. Accordingly, the two showed all of their guests how to cut a rug all night long.

William and Kate’s wedding reception: all circumstance, no pomp

One of the reasons it’s admittedly hard to think about William and Kate being party animals after their wedding is because of the wedding itself. This was an insanely formal occasion because it’s not every day that the future King of England gets married. Accordingly, the entire world was watching, and these two were so staid and formal that they did the late Queen Elizabeth very proud.

Fortunately for the happy couple and their invited guests, the reception was a very different animal. While the wedding ceremony had 1900 guests including an array of world leaders and dignitaries, the reception had only 300 people, making it feel infinitely more intimate. So intimate, in fact, that William and Kate showed these guests a side of themselves the world has never truly seen.

Killer dance moves powered by an American musical

By all accounts, the reception guests had a good time throughout the event. William and Kate partied longer than most (more on this soon), but they saved a special show for anyone who stuck around to the end. People reports that the two stood in the middle of the dance floor grinning as if they were in on a very good joke. And they were: soon, the song “You’re the One That I Want” from Grease began playing.

At this point, the duo did more than start dancing. They fully acted out the parts of Danny and Sandy from the film, which included pointing to each other and mouthing the words to the hit song. Everyone in attendance loved this unexpected performance whose entertainment value even managed to outshine an earlier point in the evening when the two did their own karaoke-style cover of the Beatles song “She Loves You.”

The future King and Queen partied all night long

Chances are that you’ve attended some wedding receptions where the bride and groom were happy to slip away as soon as possible. That wasn’t the case with William and Kate, though. These two actually stayed up partying until 3:00 am, way past the point that most of us would be safely in bed.

Notably, this was past the point that most of their guests headed to bed. Most of the invited attendees had already decided to call it a night, meaning that William and Kate managed to successfully shut down their own party. Again, these two could give Harry a run for his money when it comes to partying!

Why Kate Middleton is very different behind closed doors

Hearing this account of William and Kate being wild party animals after their own wedding is enough to change our perception of them as very solemn and serious. That is particularly true when it comes to Kate Middleton. For the most part, she has always presented a very formal face to the world, but it turns out there is a good reason for that.

Royal biographer Robert Jobson confided to The Sun that, behind closed doors, Kate is a much livelier person who loves to laugh. But she is very aware that she represents England during public appearances and chooses all of her words very carefully. The end result is that she has the formality you’d expect from the future Queen, but that formal mask hides her fun and even mischievous side from the world.

Prince William once shared the stage with the world’s biggest star

Between William and Kate, he is the one who is known to be a little wilder in public settings. This includes that time when he unleashed some seriously silly dad-style dance moves at a club. But all of this pales in comparison to the time he shared a stage with the world’s biggest star.

Recently, Prince William took his kids to see a Taylor Swift concert, and the children were suitably impressed by her grace and elegance. But as People reports, William had a more personal run-in with Swift back in 2013. They were seated together at a Centrepoint charity gala where she went onstage to sing “Livin’ On a Prayer” along with Bon Jovi. She invited William to get up onstage to join them and, incredibly, he agreed.

Later, William explained why he made the impulsive decision to take the stage. “Frankly, if Taylor Swift looks you in the eye, touches your arm, and says, ‘Come with me,’” he said, “ I got up like a puppy and went, ‘Yeah, okay, that seems like a great idea. I’ll follow you.’”
