Being royalty means that you’re one part politician and one part celebrity. For royals, especially the future King of England, appearances are everything.
Unfortunately, Prince William never seemed to get that memo. When he makes public appearances with Kate, he doesn’t always seem to realize that the public can see his annoyed, grumpy expressions. Sometimes, it’s enough to make us worry about their marriage!

Failing to feign interest
In this 2022 photo from a visit to Scotland, a very animated Kate Middleton is explaining something to an enthusiastic audience. The audience is alternating between listening to her and admiring her hair, but William looks like he is mentally back in England.
Outright looking away
On one hand, William probably should have a serious look on his face while he and Kate visit this memorial for victims of the 2017 Manchester terrorist attack. On the other hand, the fact that he is looking completely away from Kate makes it seem like he doesn’t even want to be by her side!

William goes ‘Maverick’
Honestly, we don’t see how anyone can look sad when attending the fancy premiere of Top Gun: Maverick. However, William looks like he’d rather be piloting a jet right into the ground than stand next to Kate any longer.
Not-so-happy memories
In this 2019 photo, we see William and Kate visiting Dundee, Scotland. The two met and fell in love a scant 13 miles away at the University of St. Andrews. While Kate looks lost in nostalgia, William looks like he simply wants to get lost, preferably without Kate.
Stiff upper lip
Visitors to England love to try to get the Queen’s guards to smile. For Kate, it looks like the challenge is trying to make the Queen’s son smile. Based on this image, that won’t be happening anytime soon.
Airport ennui
Here, we see Kate and William arriving at Paro International Airport for their tour of Bhutan. It could just be the jet lag, but William looks like he’d rather get swallowed by the earth than be next to Kate any longer.

Tension in Bhutan
While in Bhutan, William and Kate got dressed nice and fancy for dinner with the king and queen. It seems kind of a waste that they dressed so nicely only to experience every kind of tension except sexual tension with each other.
When it’s mutual annoyance
Many of these photos feature William apparently snubbing Kate. Here, though, the two seem equally fed up with one another.
Cathedral crisis
In this 2016 photo, William and Kate are visiting Truro Cathedral in Cornwall. William may or may not be asking forgiveness late, though, given how cold a shoulder he is giving Kate!

If this photo looks deep and serious, it’s because William and Kate are attending the Last Post ceremony at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. But to look at their expressions, you’d think they were mourning a dead marriage rather than fallen soldiers.
