Ever wonder what fuels celebrity gossip? It usually comes down to this: we tend to focus on celebrities and the crazy things they do in public. And based on the public antics, it’s almost impossible to not speculate about what is happening behind closed doors.
That’s especially true when it comes to Donald and Melania Trump. Donald Trump was a businessman-turned-celebrity who went on to become the President of the United States. This put him under a media magnifying glass that helped us learn more about where he grabs women without consent, which porn stars he allegedly paid off, and other things that would seem to strain his relationship with Melania.
Over the years, there have been many rumors about these two having a truly dysfunctional relationship. But what are the craziest rumors? Keep reading to find out!
Ongoing rumors of cheating
They say that where there’s smoke, there’s fire. And that may be why there are so many persistent rumors about Donald Trump cheating on his wife.
The most prominent case concerns porn star Stormy Daniels. It started with the Wall Street Journal alleging that Trump had his lawyer, Micahel Cohen, pay Daniels $130,000 to stay quiet about an affair. Daniels later admitted to this in a 60 Minutes interview. According to her, Trump was unconcerned about Melania, despite her just giving birth to Barron Trump. “Oh yeah, yeah, you know, don’t worry about that. We don’t even — we have separate rooms and stuff,” he allegedly said.
There have been other high-profile accusations, including an earlier allegation that Donald cheated on Melania Playboy model Karen McDougal. Publicly, Melania has denied these allegations and claimed to be unbothered by the rumors, but that only makes the rumor machine work that much harder.

Melania is counting down to divorce
One of the interesting side effects of Donald Trump becoming president is that many who worked with him went on to write tell-all books. And these books, ostensibly written by insiders privy to Trump’s life, often paint a very bleak picture of his marriage.
For example, former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman went on to write a 2018 book titled Unhinged: An Insider’s Account of the Trump White House. In that book, she alleges that “Melania is counting every minute until he is out of the office and she can divorce” and that “If Melania were to try to pull the ultimate humiliation and leave while he’s in office, he would find a way to punish her.”
The book goes on to claim that Melania is grateful to Donald for her visa status and only stays married to him for fear of angry repercussions. Once more, Melania seems unworried about these rumors in public, but we can’t help but wonder how frosty things might be in an otherwise sunny Mar-a-Lago.
A purely transactional marriage
Remember when we said that many insiders claim to know the real story about Donald and Melania Trump’s marriage? Well, another one of those insiders is Stephanie Winston Wolkoff. She was Melania’s senior adviser for many years and, until they had a falling out, a close friend of the former First Lady.
What does Wolkoff have to say about the marriage? In an interview with the BBC, she said, “I do believe it’s a transactional marriage.” She continued: “Donald got arm candy. Melania got two dynamic decades. She met Donald, she married, she became an American citizen, they had a son, and 10 years after that she’s the first lady of the United States.”
Like the other insiders, Wolkoff went on to write a book: Melania and Me. In that book, Wolkoff goes on to describe seeing Melania as “genuinely caring and loving and worth all of our attention” but now sees her as an otherwise empty “gold shell.” Basically, Wolkoff wonders if Melania Trump’s entire personality is just as vapid and hollow as her marriage seems to be.

Demands for Melania to ‘maintain’ her body
Donald and Melania Trump have only had one child together: Barron. Depending on who you ask, the reason for this is simple: Donald was worried about what childbirth would do to his wife’s body!
Back in 2017, Vanity Fair published a story about a guest who visited the Trumps. The guest witnessed an exchange between Donald and Melania that left a very negative impression. “She promised him that everything would go back to the way it was,” the guest claimed. “And he was simply rude to her. There was no ‘How do you feel?’ No opening of doors, making sure she didn’t fall. Just ‘You wanted to have a baby.'”
In short, Melania couldn’t get pregnant until she got her post-childbirth body up to Donald’s standards. And considering Trump’s own weight issues throughout the years, this particular standard can only be described as a double standard.
Blaming Melania for the 2022 midterm results
The 2022 midterm elections ended up being a real nail-biter. Before the elections, many projected a “red wave” where voters disappointed with Democrats would help Republicans regain both the House and the Senate. Instead, Democrats maintained control of the Senate and only narrowly lost the House. Of particular note is that many candidates endorsed by Donald Trump, including Dr. Oz, ended up losing.
Via Twitter, New York Times writer Maggie Haberman alleged that Trump was blaming everyone but himself for these election results, and that includes Melania. “Trump is indeed furious this morning, particularly about Mehmet Oz, and is blaming everyone who advised him to back Oz — including his wife, describing it as not her best decision, according to people close to him,” Haberman wrote.
As the Independent reports, Trump eventually took to Truth Social to denounce these allegations. Trump calls Haberman “a third rate reporter” and that “I was not at all ANGRY. Fake News!”
Given everything else we know about Donald and Melania, we’re not inclined to take the denial at face value. And we can’t help but wonder if we’ll ever get a tell-all book from Melania herself where she finally speaks her mind.
