The world is full of some crazy beefs between famous figures, including the recent one between musical icons Drake and Kendrick Lamar. And while it didn’t result in any entertaining diss tracks (sadly enough), we’ve been obsessing over the beef between former Donald Trump advisor Kimberly Guilfoyle and Vice President Kamala Harris.
Like most good beefs, this one stretches back for many years and it just as tangled and messy as you might expect. Where did it start, where is it heading, and what does this ongoing conflict between these two women mean? Keep reading to discover everything you need to know about the beef between Kamala Harris and Kimberly Guilfoyle.
The beef between Kamala Harris and Kimberly Guilfoyle is more than superficial
When most people learn about the beef between Kamala Harris and Kimberly Guilfoyle, they think it’s pretty straightforward. After all, Guilfoyle is a former Donald Trump adviser who is currently dating Donald Trump, Jr., so it’s not really much of a surprise to discover that she hates the Democratic Vice President of Joe Biden, Trump’s biggest rival.
However, this beef is much more than superficial. In fact, it stretches back decades to the year 2000. Back then, Harris and Guilfoyle weren’t bitter rivals…they were, in fact, coworkers!

A history of working together
Just how the heck did Kamala Harris and Kimberly Guilfoyle end up working together? Back in 1996, Guilfoyle had been working at the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, but she lost her job when District Attorney Terence Hallinan got elected and fired all 14 prosecutors.
She got her job back a few years later. In the year 2000, Guilfoyle was in a relationship with future California Governor Gavin Newsome, and Hallinan ended up hiring her back. Kamala Harris was working at the same office at this time, but they didn’t have a happy time as coworkers. That’s because Guilfoyle remained convinced that Harris actually tried to keep her from getting the job.
Did Kamala Harris try to keep Kimberly Guilfoyle from getting her job back?
You guessed it: this job-related drama is the main source of this beef and also a chief source of some prime she said/she said gossip. Back in 2003, Kimberly Guilfoyle told SFGate that after she reached out to Terence Hallinan’s assistant about getting her old job back, Kamala Harris “called me and said basically that she was on the hiring committee and in charge of the budget for the D.A.’s office, and that I should have gone through her if I wanted to return to the D.A.’s office.”
According to Guilfoyle, Harris told her that they didn’t have enough of a budget to hire anyone, even though Hallinan’s assistant hadn’t said anything to even imply this. Guilfoyle further claims that she called the District Attorney’s office after that conversation and was told that not only did Harris play no role in hiring decisions but that the office didn’t even have a hiring committee.
As for Harris, she maintained at the time that she and Guilfoyle “have great rapport and have great respect for each other” and that she only wanted to help. “I never suggested to her there wasn’t a job for her in the San Francisco D.A.’s office — of that, I’m very clear,” she said.

Guilfoyle’s accusation that Joe Biden is a puppet of Kamala Harris
Fast-forward nearly two decades and both women were now leading very different lives. Kimberly Guilfoyle had gone from once being married to a prominent Democratic governor to being a Donald Trump adviser who is dating Donald Trump, Jr. As for Kamala Harris, she ended up as Vice President of the United States, making her a ripe target for Guilfoyle to unleash some very pent-up resentment.
In a Newsmax interview in 2021, Guilfoyle made the wild claim that President Joe Biden is actually a puppet of his VP. “Harris is really the de facto commander-in-chief … She’s calling the shots here. I know this. I’ve known her a long time,” she said. On a slightly more practical note, she also claimed that Harris was using this opportunity to increase her own political capital and overall visibility because “I think she’s well in line to run for president next time.”
Kamala Harris accused of creating a socialist country
While that accusation in 2021 was pretty wild, it arguably pales to something that Kimberly Guilfoyle said at the National Republican Convention in 2020. There, she brought up their mutual time in California and claimed “If you want to see the socialist Biden-Harris future for our country, just take a look at California.”
In case you were curious, her proof for this outlandish claim begins and ends with the fact that California has had issues with things like blackouts and drug abuse. Now that we’re four years into the Biden/Harris administration, it’s fair to say they never exactly turned America into a socialist country. That remains a figment of Guilfoyle’s imagination, but the beef between her and Harris remains very, very real.
