Kate Middleton is one of the most famous faces in the entire world. That makes sense, of course. After all, she’s married to Prince William, the future King of England. Kate and her children will ultimately help to rule an entire country, and their worldwide influence has ensured all of them will remain as famous as they are rich.
Because we see so much of Kate’s face, though, it’s easy to see when she’s having good makeup days and bad ones. Normally, she’s something of a style icon, but on days when she blows it, she really blows it. Don’t believe it? Keep reading to discover Kate Middleton’s most royally awful makeup blunders!
Kate Middleton is usually on point with her makeup
Before anyone comes after us for being too mean about Kate Middle’s makeup fails, we need to make something clear. This monarch is one of the most beautiful women in the world, and she seems to have a great eye for both fashion and makeup. On any given day, you can count on Kate to be the most put-together national leader you will ever see.
Ironically, it’s the fact that she’s usually so good at choosing and applying makeup that makes those bad days more noticeable. If she was consistently bad, we’d just accept that she’s not very good at this, the same way we just accepted that Prince Andrew is incapable of buying suits that fit. But Kate is usually so great at this that when she screws up, it’s effectively that much more noticeable.

Eyeshadow that made us say “ouch!”
Back in 2020, Kate Middleton stopped in Windsor over the holiday season to personally thank the NHS and charity workers who had been helping out during the COVID-19 pandemic. And in deference to the dangers of the virus, Kate wore a mask the entire time. This was a great way to keep herself and others safe…unfortunately, it drew attention to what a poor job the usually posh Brit did on her eyeshadow.
In short, Kate swung for the fences with some red and dark colors that, done well, would have made for a very festive holiday look. Unfortunately, she did a poor job of blending these shades together, resulting in a messy look that was most apparent at the corners of her eyes. Sorry, Kate…this one was most definitely a swing and a miss.
Looking bad without blush or bronzer
Most of the makeup fails you notice in real life come from people who don’t usually wear much makeup. Understandably, on the rare occasions when they do rock some makeup, it’s not going to look as good as it would if they had extensive practice. Kate Middleton does have plenty of practice wearing makeup for her countless public appearances.
That’s what made her 2014 visit to the Northside Center for Child Development so bizarre. On this occasion, Kate apparently skipped out on wearing any blush or bronzer, which meant that her face looked drained of color and generally way too lifeless. Throw in the flash of the many cameras around her and this pretty princess looked downright ghostly!

Looking bad with too MUCH bronzer
As much as we love Kate Middleton, it’s often hard to feel sorry for her. After all, she married into one of the richest and most powerful families in the entire world and will spend the rest of her life getting everything she wants. However, we do feel bad for Kate for one specific thing: the fact that she just can’t win when it comes to wearing bronzer.
Earlier, we were dragging Kate for skipping both blush and bronzer, leaving her face overly pale for her 2014 visit to America. However, in 2012, those who saw her strolling through Nottingham noticed that she had actually applied too much bronzer. Her contour looked bad in the natural light, and that made her bronzer more noticeable…so noticeable, in fact, that it looked like she and Donald Trump could swap makeup tips.
Going grunge on her own wedding day
Many women dream of having a big, fairytale wedding for themselves. Kate Middleton got to live that fantasy out in a rather literal way: not only did she marry a charming prince, but their wedding was a bona fide international event. This was Kate’s special day, and most agreed that she looked absolutely resplendent in her breathtaking dress.
Most of her makeup was on point that day, including her rose-colored blush and lipstick. However, she used a very heavy eyeliner, a style that had gone out of fashion way long before her 2011 wedding. The result made her eyes look very hard and cold, and combined with her smoky eyeshadow, it looked like she was getting ready to go to the club rather than marry into the Royal Family.
