Normally, this is the kind of question that helps start conversations around the water cooler Monday morning. Or maybe a question to rile up people in your least-favorite group chat. However, we never expected to get an official answer, much less while cameras were rolling.

However, that’s exactly what happens in the Apple TV+ docuseries Gutsy. The program features Chelsea Clinton and Hillary Clinton traveling around and having real conversations with various women. One of those women is Kim Kardashian, and the 41-year-old reality star actually went toe-to-toe with Hillary Clinton in a legal quiz.

But who won? And what’s this documentary all about? Keep reading as we explore these questions!

Hillary Clinton’s impressive legal record

On paper, we expected Hillary Clinton to win this contest. Why? Simple: she has the kind of legal record that can be downright intimidating!

Clinton studied law at Yale, graduating with her Juri Doctor back in 1973. Before she became a first lady, U.S. senator, Secretary of State, and presidential nominee, Clinton served as congressional legal counsel, the Legal Service Corporation’s first female chair, and the first female partner at the Rose Law Firm in Little Rock, Arkansas. No, seriously… her legal record is too extensive for us to even list.

So, we thought the contest would be no contest. But as it turns out, Kim Kardashian may have a few legal plans of her own.

Kim Kardashian: future lawyer?

The very idea of Hillary Clinton and Kim Kardashian squaring off in a battle of legal wits may sound crazy. However, it’s not as insane as it sounds when you consider that Kim Kardashian is in the midst of her own legal studies.

We’re not quite sure where she finds the time (or why she’d want to do it in the first place), but Kardashian revealed on Twitter in 2019 that she is studying to become a lawyer. This wasn’t just a passing notion on her part. She kept up her legal studies and in 2021, she revealed on Instagram that she passed the baby bar exam (this is a special one-day examination typically given to First-Year law students).

In other words, we had an interesting setup for a legal showdown. Sure, Hillary Clinton is a legal legend, but she got her degree way back in 1973. And Kim Kardashian may be fresh into her legal studies, but she did fail that baby bar three times before passing it. So this was a competition that could really go either way.

Is Kim Kardashian planning to go into politics?

Before we go into who won the legal quiz, we wonder, is Kim Kardashian planning to follow Hillary Clinton and use a legal career to segue into politics?

We don’t normally think about Kim Kardashian as being overly political. After all, when her ex-husband Kanye West was engaging in his failed presidential run, she mostly stayed out of the headlines. But she has more involvement with politics than you might think.

For example, Kardashian convinced President Trump to grant a presidential pardon to Alice Marie Johnson in 2018. Still, Kardashian claimed “I’m really not about politics at all” on a political podcast with Bari Weiss (via W Magazine).

As for where she falls on the political spectrum, Kardashian admitted that she doesn’t ascribe to labels such as “Democrat” or “Republican” because of the collision between her personal beliefs and her tax bracket. “I believe in the rights that the Democrats want, but I believe in the taxes that the Republicans want,” she said.

Sounds like Kardashian already knows how to give a political response!

Hillary and Chelsea invited Kim on their Apple TV+ show ‘Gutsy’

As you can tell, there may be more than a few reasons for Kim Kardashian and Hillary Clinton to clash on a few issues (like the whole human rights vs. paying taxes thing).

However, making women clash isn’t the goal of Hillary and Chelsea’s new docuseries Gutsy, which premieres on Apple TV+ on Sept. 9. In fact, their goal is quite the opposite!

As the official logline explains, Gutsy is all about uniting Chelsea Clinton and Hillary Clinton “with some of the world’s boldest and bravest women… who make us laugh and inspire us to be more gutsy.”

So, we’re not sure if making Clinton and Kardashian square off against each other was meant to be “gutsy” or not. But the result may surprise you!

Kim Kardashian vs. Hillary Clinton: Who won?

With the legal quiz, Chelsea took the role of host. She asked questions, and Hillary Clinton and Kardashian had to buzz in and provide the answers.

Having her daughter as the host may seem inappropriate, but it didn’t help Hillary Clinton, who lost the competition to Kim Kardashian!

Given the surprise victory, some thought it was surprising that a legal legend would lose to Kim Kardashian. However, as InStyle reports, Chelsea thought it may have been more that her mother had trouble with the buzzer than the questions.

“Sometimes I could see my mom knew what the answer was, but she wouldn’t hit the buzzer in time,” she said.

Fortunately, Hillary Clinton was very gracious in defeat. “I was also really intrigued by how well she did!” Hillary said. “I wanted to put the spotlight on her — not that she needs it. But she worked really hard.”
