Princess Eugenie is one of the most fascinating members of the Royal Family, but she keeps getting overshadowed by others. This includes, of course, her own father, Prince Andrew, whose scandalous connections to Jeffrey Epstein continue to haunt the royals. It also includes Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who seemingly can’t so much as breathe without spawning a bevy of tabloid headlines.
Now, though, with Harry and Meghan living in America and Charles and Kate dealing with cancer, the royals may need a fresh new face to appeal to England and the rest of the world. Princess Eugenie could be the one they need, and she’s had the kind of life that has really prepared her for the gig.

A down-to-earth princess
Ever wonder why so many people dunk on Meghan Markle? There are plenty of reasons, but perhaps the biggest is that she has clearly been waiting her whole life to have all the titles and trapping that come from joining one of the most famous families in the world. Compared to Meghan, Princess Eugenie is one of the most down-to-earth royals in history.
As an example, Eugenie answered a common question for The Telegraph: “How do I play the princess thing? I don’t really,” she said. “I don’t like talking about it much and find it annoying when people say things like, “Oh, you’re the princess.” In short, she doesn’t really like royal titles and just wants to be treated like a regular person. She’s also not a working royal, meaning that when she’s not showing up to Buckingham Palace for a major event, Eugenie is just focusing on her family and career like the rest of us.

Early scoliosis surgery
Eugenie has plenty of reasons to be more humble than other members of the Royal Family, including some major surgery she had at a young age. She had a major case of scoliosis and had to receive surgery when she was only 12 years old, and her experience was absolutely miserable.
She later told The Telegraph that surgery isolated her from her friends and made her feel isolated and hurt. “Afterwards, I couldn’t move for a while in hospital or when I came home. I had to wear a neck brace and be moved very gently in bed for a few months,” she said. “That was very frustrating and I remember being angry about not being able to run and play.”
Eventually, she realized what happened to her meant that she could be an inspiration to others. That’s one of the reasons that in 2021, she became the Royal Patron of the Scoliosis Association UK in 2021.
Her impressive art career
Princess Eugenie isn’t a working royal, which means that she doesn’t have to treat serving the Royal Family like a full-time job. This has allowed her to pursue her own passions, and that’s how she landed a career in art. Specifically, she sells valuable works of art to collectors, and this is a job that has taken her to America and back again.
Her first gig was in New York City, but in 2015, she began working at the Hauser & Wirth art gallery. She quickly rose through the ranks and became their director in 2017. She later described her role to Harpers Bazaar, saying “Part of my job is planning special projects, supporting the artists in the gallery, and managing events. We work with many artists and estates around the world, including Mike Kelley, Philip Guston, and, most recently, Lygia Pape.”
While Eugenie isn’t a working royal, that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have some serious cash set aside in a trust fund. In a weird way, though, her choosing to work in spite of that helps make her more relatable. How many trust-fund babies do you know who threw themselves into a demanding career just for the joy of it?

Eugenie’s relationship is kind of adorable
Eugenie is a princess by blood, meaning she was born with the kind of royal connection most women would kill for. If that’s not lucky enough, she also had the kind of “meet cute” with her future husband that most women dream of. On the ski slopes of Verbier, Switzerland, she met Jack Brooksbank, and the two both felt it was love at first sight. Later. proposed to her in front of a Nicaraguan volcano, and she later told The One Show how special this moment was: “I actually said this is an incredible moment, and then he popped the question, which was really surprising even though we have been together seven years.”
Queen Elizabeth was delighted to hear news of their engagement. Fast-forward to 2018 and Eugenie and Brooksbank had a storybook wedding at Windsor Castle. Eugenie looked stunning in her gown and Greville Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara, but the day after helped prove why she’s the modern-day “people’s princess.” Not only did she hold a special celebration party in Windsor Park with delicious food and carnival rides, but she ditched the fancy clothes and wore a biker jacket with a special embroidered title on the back: “Mrs. Brooksbank.”
