It seems like we know a lot more about Meghan Markle than we do about other royals. That’s not surprising, really…she has always been more open about her life than her royal peers. While they have mostly embraced the “stiff upper lip” so common among British people, Meghan has embraced what she is: the loud and proud American of the group.
If anything, she has only gotten louder since she and Prince Harry left England and moved to America. Now, through various media projects, this royal pair has disclosed more about their lives than we ever expected to hear. While Harry mostly likes to spill tea about his father and brother (especially in his autobiography), Meghan has embraced the opportunity to share secrets about her personal life with fans.
Now, she has a new podcast in which she revealed a rare and frightening medical condition she experienced years ago. Just what is that condition, and how did it change Meghan’s life? Keep reading to find out!
Hitting the ground running with a new podcast

Back during their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, Harry and Meghan made it quite clear that King Charles had cut off some of their money. And it seems finances were restricted even further after this duo fled England for America. In order to continue funding their extravagant lifestyle, these two entered into a number of media deals, and the latest fruit of that wheeling and dealing is Meghan’s new podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder.
In general, the podcast offers the two things her fans are most interested in: insight from a strong female leader and confessions from a Duchess whose most private moments were previously hidden behind a veil of royal secrecy. And in a recent episode, she disclosed that she suffered from a rare and immensely scary medical condition after giving birth.

Meghan reveals her ‘rare and scary’ post-birth condition

On her podcast, Meghan revealed that she suffered from postpartum pre-eclampsia after giving birth. This is a condition that is tied to high blood pressure and may appear in women one to six weeks after they give birth. This is a condition that Meghan described as “so rare” and “so scary” on her podcast.
And she was right to be scared: while the Duchess didn’t disclose all of the symptoms she experienced, postpartum pre-eclampsia may cause things like nasty headaches, rib pain, vomiting, and more. If the condition isn’t properly treated, it can even lead to seizures, strokes, and organ failure, all of which may threaten the new mother’s very life!
Working through the fright

Postpartum pre-eclampsia would have been difficult for any woman to endure. Arguably, though, it was that much more difficult for Meghan Markle, who already must balance duties to her husband, children, and royal family. As she said on her podcast, “You’re still trying to juggle all these things, and the world doesn’t know what’s happening.”
During this time, Meghan thought it was important to not let down her friends and family. “Quietly, you’re still trying to show up for people,” she said. “Mostly, you’re trying to show up for your children.” That doesn’t change the fact that she endured something scary and felt like she had to hide it in order to support everyone else. “Those moments are huge medical scares,” she said, acknowledging just how frightening the entire experience really was.

Meghan’s revelations leave fans with more questions

By dishing about her medical condition, Meghan Markle certainly lived up to the podcast name Confessions of a Female Founder. The revelation that she experienced postpartum pre-eclampsia, for example, is quite the confession. Nonetheless, for fans who want even more insight into Meghan’s life, it’s a confession that leaves us with more questions than answers.
For example, this is a post-birth condition, but we don’t know whether Meghan experienced it after giving birth to Archie or Lilibet. We also don’t know how Harry reacted during this time or when (maybe that should be if) she disclosed her condition to the rest of the Royal Family. Maybe we should just have patience, though, as Meghan may very well answer those questions in a future episode.
A new brand for a renegade royal

In some ways, Meghan Markle’s life has come full circle. When she was at the height of her fame as an actor, she launched a lifestyle brand: The TIG. After she and Harry got serious, she let that brand quietly die. Since these renegade royals left England for America, though, she decided to return to her original dream, and this podcast effectively helps to promote her new lifestyle brand As Ever.
Some of Meghan’s projects have fallen through, including an agreement with Spotify that left one executive actually badmouthing her and Harry on a podcast appearance. Now, though, she has her own show and is establishing her own brand, and it may only be a matter of time before Meghan is an independent brand no longer dependent on deals with media companies like Netflix and Spotify.
