When she was alive, Princess Diana may very well have been the most popular member of the Royal Family. The public generally sympathized with her after all of the drama that then-Prince Charles put her through. On top of that, she was a great humanitarian who always stayed in touch with the common people.
Sadly, we’ll never see the light of Princess Diana again. However, there is arguably a new people’s princess: Beatrice. She has managed to escape the shadow of her father’s dark controversies to establish herself as the rare member of the Royal Family that most of us can relate to.
Don’t believe it? Keep reading to discover why Beatrice is the new people’s princess!
Unlike most royals, Beatrice has had real jobs
It’s not hard to see why so many people dislike the Royal Family. After all, these are people who are born into a life of extreme wealth and privilege. On top of that, while they like to use terms like “working royals,” most of us working stressful jobs would not consider throwing luxurious parties or attending magnificent galas to be very hard work.
Unlike most royals, though, Princess Beatrice knows what it’s like to have real jobs. She isn’t considered a working royal, which ironically means that she spends her time actually doing real work. For example, she has been the Vice President of Partnerships & Strategy at the New York-based tech company Afiniti since 2016.
While she has since moved back to the UK and now works remotely, many Americans can also relate to Beatrice because moving to the USA helped her discover who she really is. As she discussed in an interview with The Morning, “New York for me, when I was figuring out my life and what I wanted to do, New York gave me a place to kind of have a job and just get on with it.”

Keeping dear old mum from being too chatty
As mentioned earlier, it can be difficult to relate to members of the Royal Family because most of us never became rich and famous the moment we were born. However, many of us have had the experience of trying to get our overly chatty parents to move along and stay on task. As it turns out, this is just one more thing Beatrice has in common with the rest of us.
A video posted to Twitter captures the hilarious moment when Beatrice and her mum, Sarah Ferguson, were enjoying a Christmas walk. However, the walk kept getting interrupted because Fergie, bless her, just couldn’t stop talking to the various people she met. While she did it very respectfully, Beatrice ended up getting her mother to stop chatting and keep moving, something instantly relatable to anyone who has tried to get their mom to stop chatting with friends at the grocery store.
Vibing at a concert
Pop quiz: what do you imagine royals typically do for fun? For example, it’s tough to imagine King Charles going out and mixing it up with the common people, so most of us have no idea how he unwinds. As for Beatrice, we have some fun game tape that reveals she’s very much like the rest of us.
A great example of this is when the princess and her husband (Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi) went to a Kings of Leon concert in Hyde Park in July 2024. On TikTok, you can see the duo absolutely jamming out to “Use Somebody.”
Singing and dancing along to a Billboard top hit from a popular band at a summer festival? That’s a people’s princess if we’ve ever seen one!

Transparency about dyslexia struggles
Another reason that so many people loved Princess Diana is that she spoke very openly about the kinds of struggles the Royal Family would have preferred she stay quiet about. For example, she spoke about her struggles with depression, bulimia, and self-harm. And when it comes to speaking up about things others stay quiet about, Beatrice is truly following in Diana’s footsteps.
Specifically, in an interview with Hello!, Beatrice opened up about her dyslexia struggles and how they affected her in school and beyond. Beyond simply being open about her own struggles, she also discussed how simply thinking of dyslexia as “a diagnosis” is something that “does a disservice to the brilliance of some of the most fantastic minds that we have. And I think just shifting the narrative a little bit towards something that is positive, something that is impactful, I think can really help everyone.”
Beatrice flies like the common folk
Princess Beatrice does fly around more than your average person. And with her royal connections, you might think she’d fly first class all the way or simply use a private plane. Surprisingly, though, the princess flies like many common folk do.
For example, Beatrice flew commercially to Sri Lanka in January 2024 and to Cannes in June 2024 (in the latter case, she used a cheapo airline, EasyJet). Even more surprisingly, she typically carries her own luggage when she gets off the plane! Just one more way that Beatrice is truly the new people’s princess.
