The Unknown Truth of Gavin Newsom

Gavin Newsom is a prominent American politician who has served as the Governor of California since January 2019, but his influence extends far beyond that state. Newsom has worked very hard to make himself a household name, and many think he is doing so to eventually run for president as early as 2028.

Early Life and Education

Newsom was born on October 10, 1967, in San Francisco, California. He attended Redwood High School in Marin County and later graduated from Santa Clara University with a Bachelor of Arts in political science.

Business Ventures

Before entering politics, Newsom had a successful career in business. He founded the PlumpJack Group, a hospitality business that includes wineries, restaurants, and hotels. This entrepreneurial background has shaped his approach to governance.

Mayor of San Francisco

Newsom served as the Mayor of San Francisco from 2004 to 2011. During his tenure, he gained national attention for his progressive policies, including support for same-sex marriage. He also implemented universal healthcare access for city residents.

Same-Sex Marriage

Newsom played a significant role in the legalization of same-sex marriage in California. In 2004, as Mayor of San Francisco, he authorized the issuance of marriage licenses to same-sex couples, which led to legal battles and eventually the legalization of same-sex marriage in the state.

His High-profile Affair

Because he has been in politics for so long, it can be hard to keep track of Gavin Newsom’s biggest scandals. One older one that often slips through the cracks is the fact that he had an affair in 2005. When details of that messy affair went public, it caused a number of major problems for everyone involved.

It all started when Newsom was in the middle of breaking up with Kimberly Guilfoyle. Like a walking cliche, Newsom ended up having an affair with his campaign manager, Ruby Rippey-Tourk. We might never have known about the affair if Ruby hadn’t come forward, which caused her husband Alex Tourk to immediately (and understandably) drop out of Newsom’s re-election campaign.

Once again, Newsom issued the predictable apology for his actions. Then and now, however, critics seized upon how reckless it was for Newsom to have an affair with someone on his staff, effectively putting his political career in jeopardy even as he burned bridges with people who trusted him.

Nasty Back-and-forth With His Ex-girlfriend

Remember when we said that Gavin Newsom’s affair happened when he was breaking up with Kimberly Guilfoyle? Interestingly, she would later go on to become Donald Trump, Jr.’s fiancee, which means that she and Newsom are on very opposite sides of the political aisle. Perhaps because of that, the two have had some very snarky (and very public) back-and-forths over the years.

This all started, strangely enough, when Newsom was interviewed by Buzzfeed. When the topic came up of who his ex-girlfriend was now dating, Newsom jokingly mentioned that he and the elder Donald Trump “may have had a private moment on that conversation, which in and of itself, makes life just interesting.” Many saw this as a violation of Guilfoyle’s trust and privacy, and apparently, she agreed!

Guilfoyle has increasingly spoken out against Newsom over the years, but it never got blunter than when she threw his ambitions under the bus during a 2022 speech. According to her, Gavin Newsom will never become president, and that’s especially brutal because many consider Newsom’s controversial decisions and extreme virtue-signalling as ways he is hoping to cement himself as a future Democratic contender for president.
