From the outside looking in, you might think that Ivanka would be the Donald Trump child most sympathetic to his various legal woes. After all, her father has never disguised that she is his favorite child in numerous interviews. Beyond that, she’s the only one of his kids that he brought to work with him directly in the White House.
However, Ivanka has proven to be far less sympathetic than you might think. Not only has she said very little in defense of her famous father, but what she has said seems pretty damning once you read between the lines. The greatest example of this might be what she said–and what she didn’t say–in a recent appearance on the Lex Fridman Podcast. Keep reading to discover how Ivanka really feels about Donald Trump!
Keeping a low profile after leaving the White House
Since he lost the 2020 election, Donald Trump has been dealing with one scandal after another. This includes his alleged role in the January 6th attack by his supporters on the Capitol and his numerous legal woes. That includes him being convicted of paying hush money to influence the 2016 election, making him the first American president convicted of a felony.
Notably, Ivanka Trump has kept a very low profile this entire time. She announced she wouldn’t be taking part in her father’s 2024 presidential campaign. Facing condemnation and expulsion from her circle of elite New York friends, Ivanka has tried to consistently distance herself from her dad as his legal woes mounted. Speaking of those woes, when she does show up to support her father, it’s usually because she had to come in and offer testimony under oath.

Her surprising reason for leaving politics behind
It might have damaged her reputation, but Ivanka Trump’s time working with her dad in the White House helped her and her husband Jared Kushner make plenty of money. Because of this, many have openly wondered why she is so adamant about leaving politics behind forever.
When she appeared on the Lex Fridman Podcast, she elaborated on her surprising motivation for putting politics in the rearview mirror. “Politics is … a pretty dark world,” she said. “Like, there’s a lot of darkness, a lot of negativity, and it’s just really at odds with what feels good to me as a human being.” It seems politics doesn’t spark joy for Ivanka and she is happy to cash out and never return.
Ivanka’s surprising statement about Donald Trump
Appearing on this podcast gave Ivanka Trump time to discuss many different topics, including her thoughts on Dolly Parton. Inevitably, the conversation turned to how she felt about her dad’s recent legal troubles, and her answer surprised us very much.
“On a human level, it’s my father and I love him very much, so it’s painful to experience,” she said. “But ultimately, I wish it didn’t have to be this way.” Her carefully chosen words reveal that she understands mistakes were made that led to these unfortunate circumstances for her family. Arguably, though, what is more interesting about her response is what she didn’t say.

The secret meaning behind Ivanka’s words
If you’ve ever heard Trump’s other children, especially Donald Trump Jr., discuss their father, you’ve probably heard them echo certain buzzwords defending dear old dad. Donald Trump himself has often echoed these words, claiming that he is the victim of a “witch hunt” and “lawfare” and not…you know…a guy who did shady things and finally faced some legal consequences.
Speaking with Lex Fridman, though, Ivanka Trump didn’t use any of those familiar buzzwords. In point of fact, she didn’t defend her father at all even though she had the perfect opportunity to do so. She didn’t attack the prosecutors or lay out any reason why the accusations weren’t completely correct.
Reading between the lines, it looks like Ivanka knows that her dad is guilty and doesn’t want so much as a soundbite of her defending him to go online. Just one more way that she continues to put distance between herself and her dad’s nonstop scandals.
Even if her daddy wins, Ivanka Trump isn’t returning to the White House
Previously, Ivanka Trump stated that she wouldn’t help her father with his 2024 presidential campaign. However, she has more recently confirmed that even if her dad wins the election, there is no way she will work with him in the White House again.
Speaking to Lex Fridman, she elaborated that she wants to instead spend this time with her own children. “I know today the cost they would bear for me being all in … and I’m not willing to make them bear that cost,” she said. “I served for four years and feel so privileged to have done it. But as their mom, I think it’s really important that I do what’s right for them.” It’s the decision of a great mother…one that conveniently will stay as far away from her politically toxic father as possible, no matter the election results.
