How do you feel about the possible existence of aliens and UFOs? Because there has never previously been compelling hard evidence about these things, belief in extraterrestrial life is its own leap of faith. As Fox Mulder’s office poster said in The X-Files, most of us can only admit “I want to believe.”
However, some people with very high-level information can say much more. And that includes former President of the United States Barack Obama.
Obama made an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden recently and dropped some bombshell info about aliens and UFOs. But it turns out that this is only the latest governmental official to help confirm that we may actually have some galactic neighbors.
What did Obama say, and what other evidence is out there? We’ve got the full scoop below.
The Pentagon released footage of UFOs in 2020
Popular culture tells us that UFOs and aliens are usually part of the same conversation. If there are little green men out there, then they must use UFOs as their intergalactic cars… right?
Not really. The term UFO is very specific: it may refer to any kind of flying object that we are unable to identify. Therefore, any craft that we can’t identify is a UFO, though most government officials are more worried about these craft being super-advanced designs from other nations rather than being visitors from outer space.
Thanks to declassified footage released by the Pentagon in April 2020 (which you can watch above), we know that UFOs are real even if the jury is still out on alien life. As former DoD researcher and UFO specialist Luis Elizondo told CNN, “These aircraft — we’ll call them aircraft — are displaying characteristics that are not currently within the US inventory nor in any foreign inventory that we are aware of.”
After the footage was released, everyone wanted to know more about these UFOs. And when Barack Obama visited The Late Late Show with James Corden recently, bandleader Reggie Watts took the opportunity to ask him.

Barack Obama spills the beans on UFOs
On May 17, Barack Obama made an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden. While the interview covered many topics, the most fascinating part was what Obama shared about UFOs and aliens.
According to Obama, soon after taking office, he immediately began asking his aides, “Is there the lab somewhere where we’re keeping the alien specimens and spaceships?” The answer he got was “no.” But then he dropped some real bombshells for the audience when he began discussing UFOs.
“But what is true and I’m actually being serious here, is there are, there’s footage and records of objects in the skies that we don’t know exactly what they are,” Obama said, referring to the governmental footage of UFOs captured by the U.S. Navy.
“We can’t explain how they moved, their trajectory. They did not have an easily explainable pattern. So I think that people still take seriously trying to investigate and figure out what that is.”
Unfortunately, there was a limit to what Obama could indulge. Like his predecessors going back at least as far as Jimmy Carter, Obama said that “there are some things I just can’t tell you on-air.”
And given the rich history of governmental alien investigations, there is likely quite a bit of official information he cannot tell us!
A history of government UFO investigations
Part of what made The X-Files seem so fantastic was the very premise. Outside of a television show, it was very difficult for audiences to imagine the government paying agents to investigate UFOs and aliens.
However, recent years have taught us that the premise wasn’t actually that far-fetched. For example, the Pentagon began a program in 2007 intended to study recorded interactions between U.S. pilots and UFOs. But after the DoD reassessed their budgeting priorities, they ended the program in 2012.
And just last year, the Pentagon created a task force to study “UFPs” (“Unidentified Aerial Phenomena”). This seems part of a recent push by the Pentagon to be more transparent about UFOs, which includes the official release of three Navy videos of UFOs recorded in 2019.

Obama is not the first president to discuss UFOs
Part of why Obama’s comments got people excited was the high level of authority that he has. This was the former leader of the free world actually talking about aliens and UFOs!
But the truth is that Obama is merely the latest president to chime in on this topic. Back in 2014, Bill Clinton admitted on Jimmy Kimmel Live that he had investigated alien life while he was president. This included investigating Area 51 and looking into research surrounding alleged alien activities in Roswell, New Mexico.
However, Clinton’s research was mostly intended to rule out the existence of aliens. As he joked with Kimmel, he checked out Area 51 “to make sure there was no alien down there.” But he was serious when he said there were things he had learned that he could not share in the interest of national security (a claim Obama would later echo).
Meanwhile, former president Jimmy Carter claimed he personally witnessed a UFO in 1973. Because of this, Carter committed to researching alien life during his time in office after winning the presidency in 1976.
And it turns out new information about UFOs might be coming soon, courtesy of Donald Trump.
More information to come
Are you intrigued by Obama’s comments and the possibility of more revelations about aliens and UFOs? In that case, the next month is going to be very exciting!
Thanks to a requirement Donald Trump tucked into last year’s coronavirus stimulus bill, we are going to learn more about what the government knows. Specifically, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and Secretary of Defense has to give an unclassified report on UAPs to the intelligence and armed services committees of Congress.
We don’t yet know what this report is going to say. But when it comes out in June, we may be facing a new series of revelations about UFOs and maybe even an answer to the question of whether we are alone in the universe!
