Nick Cannon is commenting on his former relationship with Kim Kardashian, who split with him in 2006 after about a year of dating.
Now, Cannon has revealed he and Kardashian were “super serious” in a recent interview on the “Drink Champs” podcast with N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN.
“It was almost 20 years ago,” said the Wild ‘N Out star, 41, who dated Kardashian when he was 26 and she was 25. “We were kids.”
He pointed out he “obviously knew Kim before Kanye [West did],” but revealed that West sometimes hung out with them, including at a birthday party Kardashian threw for Cannon at his clothing store on Melrose. Cannon also said they partied with the likes of Nas, Paris Hilton and Lil’ Kim.
“Long story short… We were getting pretty serious back then…” Cannon said.
“Marriage material?” DJ EFN asked.
“Nah,” Cannon said, before backtracking. “I mean, I don’t know, it was getting serious…. I was, she was super serious. There was hanging out with the family, all of that.”
The Masked Singer host then revealed that the relationship imploded shortly after they ran into Kardashian’s ex-boyfriend Ray J on Rodeo Drive. Right before entering the Louis Vuitton store, Cannon “cuffed up” with Kardashian by holding her hand.
“You ain’t gonna want to be keep holding her hand soon. Watch!” Ray J yelled at him.
Cannon said he assumed Ray J was just “hating.” But then he started hearing rumors of a sex tape between Ray J and Kim.
“She just denied it,” Cannon said.
“Did y’all have a tape?” he said he asked her. “She was like, ‘No!'”
“I was like, ‘I’m gonna rock with you, just tell me the truth.’ But she denied it…. When it finally did come out…. I was like, ‘Wait, what?!'”
DJ EFN asked Cannon, “So you broke up ’cause of that, though?”
“It definitely created some…” Cannon trailed off.
Still, Cannon has no hard feelings against Kardashian. “She is amazing,” he said. “It was so long ago.”
Kardashian married Kanye West in 2014 and filed for divorce in February 2021. They share four children together.
Meanwhile, Cannon was married to Mariah Carey from 2008–2016, and shares two children with her. He has since fathered five other children with three other partners.
