Kanye West Files Response to Kim Kardashian’s Divorce Filing

Kanye West has filed a legal response to Kim Kardashian’s divorce filing, nearly two months after she submitted it.

According to TODAY, West filed his response on Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court. And it appears that West and Kardashian want the same things.

Both have asked for joint physical and legal custody of their children: North, 7, Saint, 5, Chicago, 3, and Psalm, 23 months. Both cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their divorce. And both have requested the judge to terminate the court’s right to award spousal support.

In her divorce filing, Kardashian asked the court to enforce their prenuptial agreement. It was previously reported that West does not want to contest the prenup.

Associated Press notes that under their prenup, the couple agreed to keep their property separate. They are reportedly working on a property settlement agreement in which Kardashian will keep their $60 million Los Angeles mansion where they have been raising their children.

Neither party listed a date of separation in their legal paperwork, but last year West left their Los Angeles home to spend time at his ranch in Wyoming. Some legal experts believe this could be an impediment to West getting joint physical custody of the children.

Reportedly, West has been visiting their children in their home in Los Angeles, but only when Kardashian is out of the house. In that same report, it was alleged that West and Kardashian have not been speaking to each other directly, but communicating through West’s security. It’s also been claimed that West changed all his phone numbers so Kardashian can’t call him.

Although West and Kardashian have had several public disagreements about their children over the course of their nearly seven-year marriage, it was reportedly comments West made last summer that led to Kardashian’s decision to divorce. At a campaign rally in his failed bid to run for president, West revealed that he had tried to convince Kardashian to abort their first child.

According to West himself, he and Kardashian had been heading toward a split for a long time. On July 22, 2020, he tweeted, “I been trying to get divorced since Kim met with Meek at the Warldolf [sic] for ‘prison reform’.”

Kardashian and rapper Meek Mill appeared together to speak at the Criminal Justice Reform Summit in Los Angeles all the way back in November 2018.
