Jessica Simpson is giving away many details about her life in her upcoming memoir Open Book. This includes stories about her former relationship with John Mayer.
Some fans thought the timing was odd that Simpson would dish about these details now considering that she and Mayer broke up back in 2010. And because of the odd timing, some are questioning whether Simpson is now hoping to get some kind of apology from Mayer.
Now, however, we know that is not the case. Simpson was recently interviewed by Tamron Hall. And while the full interview will not air until March 26, an exclusive preview clip of the interview shows her opening up about both her relationship with Mayer and her goal in including these details in her book.
Clearing things up, Simpson definitively told Hall, “I definitely don’t feel that I am owed a public apology.” Why, then, go into some of these romantic details 11 years after the fact?

“I mean, you can’t take it back. And I’m a very forgiving person but I’m also honest. So, in the memoir, if I’m gonna talk about stuff that caused me pain, I’m going to be honest about it,” Simpson said. “And that was a time in my life that I was very manipulated and also in love, or seemingly.”
Some of the romantic details she divulges were more of an open secret for fans of the couple. For example, she details that Mayer was “obsessed” with her, both “sexually and emotionally.” While that sounds intense, it echoes the same things Mayer himself told Playboy shortly before they broke up. Describing Simpson, Mayer said, “The girl is like crack cocaine to me. Sexually it was crazy. That’s all I’ll say. It was like napalm, sexual napalm.”
While there is something to be said about having such a devoted lover, Simpson’s book reveals that she was weirded out by both the intensity of his emotions and the fact that he shared those details with the entire world. But her discomfort with that moment helped her when she was struggling to move on with her life after they broke up.
Ultimately, Simpson has moved on quite nicely. She has married former NFL player Eric Johnson, and they have three children together. Most importantly, she is devoted to telling her story on her terms, regardless of how John Mayer may feel about the dirty details.
