Harry Brant, Fashion Icon, Passes Away at 24

Harry Brant, the son of supermodel Stephanie Seymour and billionaire magazine publisher Peter Brant, has passed away at only 24 years old.

In a statement to The New York Times, Brant’s family revealed that he died from an accidental drug overdose on Sunday. Their statement celebrated his life as a “creative, loving and powerful soul” and lamented that “his life was cut short by this devastating disease.”

For Harry Brant, art and fashion were the dominant forces in his life from a young age. He made a formative trip to the Met Gala at only 16 and soon after modeled for Italian Vogue and the fashion campaigns of the Balmain company.

Sadly, his life and career may have foreshadowed his untimely death. In a 2016 interview with W Magazine, Brant noted that he enjoyed wearing makeup “because it is all about fantasy and turning yourself into someone you might not necessarily be on an everyday basis, so you kind of get to escape for a night.”

It seems Brant eventually turned to drugs for a similar sense of transformation and escape. His parents noted that he wanted help for his disease and “was just days away from re-entering rehab” before his death.

In addition to his modeling career, Brant wrote for Interview Magazine and helped develop a unisex cosmetics line.

“We ask that you please allow our family privacy as we attempt to cope with the loss of our beautiful, beautiful boy,” his family’s statement said.
