Everything We Know So Far About Season 2 of HBO’s Euphoria

Fans of the HBO series Euphoria have been waiting over a year for a sophomore season of the show. Now, we’ve gathered all of the info you’re going to need before the new season premieres.

The first season was a major hit for fans and critics alike. It received a whopping three Emmy nominations, and show star Zendaya (who plays Rue) took home the prize for outstanding lead actress. She is the youngest woman to ever receive this award.

So, what do we know so far about Euphoria season two?

Release date

The bad news is that the Euphoria season two release date has yet to be announced. Like many shows, production halted due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. In the case of Euphoria, Zendaya said in a June 2020 interview in Variety, “We were supposed to go back to work, I believe, on March 16.” However, “three or four days before that, they were shut down. I was like, ‘I was so close.’ We did camera tests and hair and makeup tests, and we got to see everybody and we had the sets were built.”

Two special episodes

While we don’t know when the second season will premiere, fans don’t have to wait to see more of their favorite characters. That is because the show is putting out two special episodes to serve as a bridge between the seasons.

The first of these episodes premiered on HBO Max on December 4, 2020. It is titled “Trouble Don’t Last Always” and focuses entirely on Rue and Ali in a diner. They enjoy a wide-ranging conversation in the wake of Jules leaving Rue at the train station.

The second of these episodes will premiere on HBO Max on Friday, January 22 at 9 p.m. ET and then on HBO on Sunday, January 24 at 9 p.m. ET. This episode will focus almost entirely on Jules. As with the first bridge episode, it will help establish character changes and events we will see in the second season.

Major changes

What can we expect from the second season? It depends on who you ask!

In a September 2020 cover story for InStyle, Zendaya was discussing her character Rue and casually mentioned that fans have “a beautiful second season” waiting for them. But co-star Sydney Sweeney said on Entertainment Tonight last April that the season is “just shocking” and that the different characters will “getting into more intense situations.”

Of course, both of these descriptions might be true. But fans will have to wait to finish the season before they can decide if the “shocking” content outweighs the beauty of the scripts and performances.

New faces

As you’d expect, most of the cast from season one (including Maude Apatow, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, and Barbie Ferreira) will reprise their roles. They will be joined by new cast member Kelvin Harrison Jr.

So far, he is the only new cast member announced. But we’re fairly sure the show has a few new surprise performers to add to this award-winning cast before the season is through.
