Meghan Markle, president of the United States of America? It might sound farfetched, but Markle’s latest biographer thinks she is “likely” to run for president and even has a “good chance” of being elected.
Author Tom Bower recently signed a substantial six-figure deal to write an unauthorized biography of Markle, but he has wasted no time at all giving us some insight into her character.
According to The U.S. Sun, Bower recently dished about Meghan’s presidential chances to the British magazine Closer. “The prospect of Meghan running for president is possible and I’d even say likely,” he said. “I really believe it’s where she sees herself going.”
Not only does Bower think Meghan is likely to run for president, but he also thinks she is likely to win. He confided to the magazine, “I think she has a good chance of getting into the White House.” Bower even thinks Meghan could heal the rift with her Royal Family by eventually returning to the U.K. “to have tea with the Queen one day as president of the United States!”
It might be easy to dismiss some of Bower’s musings as being biased toward Markle. But Bower is not known for writing flattering portrayals of his subjects, and he was candid about some of the shortcomings he believes Markle would have as president.
He pointed out that politicians are “probably the public figures who face the most backlash” and that this could pose “major” difficulties for Meghan because of the “clear sensitivity” he claims she has.
“I really think she would struggle. She’d need to learn to take the heat,” he said. In her recent interview with Oprah, Markle told the world that the pressures of the Royal Family as well as the British press made her consider suicide.
Bower also thinks that Markle would struggle to “build up a team of loyal staff” in a presidential administration. “We’ve seen through the reports about her staff members quitting and moving on that she doesn’t seem to be able to hold onto her team,” he said.
Markle has previously called the allegations of her bullying staff a “calculated smear campaign.”
Bower is known for his unauthorized biographies and has covered the Royal Family before. In 2018, he released an unauthorized biography of Prince Charles entitled Rebel Prince.
