You ever hang out with friends who argue with their spouses constantly? It can get pretty awkward, like having to watch your mom and dad fight. Eventually, you get annoyed with the constant drama, and you want to practically grab your friends by their shirt collars and ask them a simple question in the loudest possible voice: “When are the two of you going to break up and stop embarrassing yourselves like this?”
Even if you don’t have friends like that, you have the next best thing: the politicians on TV! Most big-time politicians have a spouse, which helps them seem trustworthy. After all, if someone married them, they can’t be all bad…right? Unfortunately, some powerhouse political couples have more red flags that we can count without busting out the calculator. As with our more problematic friends, these are the celebs we expect to break up any day now.

Brigitte and Emmanuel Macron
If you’re an American, you probably don’t know much about Emmanuel Macron other than the fact that he’s the president of France. In his home country, though, people know that there are plenty of red flags in Macron’s relationship with his wife, Brigitte. It all starts with their profound age gap: you see, Brigitte met her future husband when she was a 39-year-old teacher and he was her 15-year-old student!
The fact that Brigitte married someone she met so young is pretty problematic in and of itself…if that happened these days, the general consensus would be that she groomed the young man. Regardless, that wouldn’t matter so much if they ended up having a happy, healthy relationship. But last year, a video went viral in which Brigitte appeared to shove her husband in the face as they departed a plane. Emmanuel has since downplayed that incident, but to many of us watching, that looked like spousal abuse!

Bill and Hillary Clinton
When you’re talking about political couples with red flags, it’s impossible to avoid talking about Bill and Hillary Clinton. The rumors of Bill having an extramarital affair go all the way back to the ‘80s, but they made far fewer waves when he was simply the governor of Arkansas. Once he was elected president, however, we got some details, including an ugly account from two Arkansas State Troopers who alleged that Clinton asked them to arrange meetings with other women he wanted to have sex with.
All of this came to a head when Clinton was busted for having sexual relations with Monica Lewinsky, a White House intern. He got impeached over the matter and very nearly lost his presidency, and the incident cast a permanent shadow over his political achievements. It also cast a shadow over his marriage, with many wondering why Hillary Clinton wouldn’t simply leave her relationship with a known cheater. Now that Bill has been named in the Epstein files (which include pictures of him in a hot tub with unknown women), she’s probably asking herself the same question!
JD and Usha Vance
JD Vance is, politically speaking, in a very interesting position. On one hand, he has had a downright meteoric political career: he parlayed a best-selling book into a Senate position, and his seat was barely warm before he was selected as Donald Trump’s running mate. After Trump was elected a second time, that put Vance a heartbeat away from the presidency. However, Trump is such a larger-than-life figure that Vance doesn’t get much to do, and (a bit like Biden under Obama), he’s become something of a laughing stock online.
Those haters had plenty to laugh at when Vance appeared at a Turning Point USA event and greeted Erika Kirk, the widow of murdered conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. Vance embraced her with quite a bit of passion, which caused speculation that the two might be having an affair or are interested in starting one. Making matters worse was the fact that Usha Vance always seems distant (both physically and emotionally) from her husband, causing some to wonder if there have been problems with this marriage for a very long time.

Donald and Melania Trump
These days, Donald Trump would likely balk at any comparisons to Bill Clinton. The comparisons are fair, though: once upon a time, these two were very friendly with one another. And like Clinton, Trump has gotten into hot water in scandals involving women outside his marriage. Those scandals have caused seemingly endless speculation that Melania Trump may someday leave Donald, just as he left two wives before her.
Arguably, the biggest scandal came from Stormy Daniels, a porn star who alleged she had sex with Trump only four months after Barron was born and was subsequently paid $130,000 in hush money. In the subsequent trial, it was revealed that Donald and Melania don’t sleep in the same bedroom, which implies a certain lack of intimacy. Additionally, her body language over the years has been very frosty, like when he tried to kiss her at his 2025 inauguration and she turned away. If you’ve seen that famous photo of Prince Charles trying to kiss a disinterested Princess Diana, you know how bad this looks for Donald and his marriage!
