In life, Princess Diana had many affectionate nicknames from adoring supporters. Perhaps the most endearing (and enduring) of these is “the people’s princess.” She was never afraid to mix with common people, get her hands dirty, and lead by example when it came to using wealth and power to help those who were less fortunate.
Given how chaotic the current state of the Royal Family is, Diana’s influence is missed now more than ever. The public misses her calm and collected leadership, and the same can be said for her family. The rift between Prince William and Prince Harry just keeps growing, and many have wondered if anyone will be capable of mending it.
According to her former butler, Diana would have been able to predict much of this conflict and keep it from coming to a head. Just what did he say, and how could Diana help? Keep reading to discover her most shocking predictions about her sons!
United by their greatest shared tragedy
Once upon a time, Prince William and Prince Harry were more than brothers….they were two very tightly-knit friends. William was cool-headed and charming, Harry was wild and mischievous, and they perfectly complemented one another. The addition of Kate Middleton to the mix only helped their bond grow stronger, and they became a nearly inseparable trio.
Arguably, William and Harry were so close at first because of a shared tragedy….specifically, the unthinkable death of their mother after a fatal car crash. She meant the world to these boys, and they had to lean on each other for support ever since her death. Or at least they did until Meghan Markle entered the picture.

A royal falling out between Prince Harry and Prince William
Even for those who love her, it’s clear who drove a wedge between Harry and William. When Harry fell in love with Meghan Markle, it was a romance that broke all the rules. She wasn’t English and she wasn’t noble, and to make matters worse, she had even been married before. In other words, the deck was already stacked against her, and the Royal Family’s suspicions about her seemed confirmed as she tried (and failed) to integrate into their family.
Things came to a head when Harry and Meghan decided to do something crazy: step down from their royal responsibilities and start a new life in America. At the time, some hoped an ocean of distance could help heal the rift between Harry and William. Unfortunately, that rift has only grown, and it seems like Harry might be almost entirely to blame.
No signs of the rift between them healing
The first sign that the rift between Harry and William might never heal is when Harry and Meghan did their infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey. During this interview, they leveled a number of explosive allegations against the Royal Family. The worst one was their claim that an unnamed senior royal had worried about the color of Meghan’s unborn child’s skin. This led to a flurry of headlines and even caused Prince William to get in front of the first camera he could find and insist that the Royal Family isn’t racist.
That would have been bad enough, but since he was financially cut off from family money thanks to King Charles, Harry has struck a number of media deals that resulted in spreading more gossip. This includes a memoir and a Netflix docuseries, both of which spill quite a bit of tea about the Royal Family.
Now, the rift between the brothers is wider than ever before. But according to her former butler, Princess Diana made predictions about this and would have been able to help the brothers heal if she were still alive.

Princess Diana the peacemaker
Paul Burrell is Princess Diana’s former butler. As reported by The Daily Guardian, he remembers her as “a peacemaker” and describes how devastated she was when her relationship with Charles disintegrated, something that split their family apart. “It broke her heart when that disintegrated,” he said. “She would have predicted that once that disintegrated, William and Harry would have had problems of their own and that has come true.”
He is also convinced that if she were still alive, things would now be quite different. “She would have seen this starting and she would have stopped it.” Burrell states that Diana would have successfully convinced Harry to apologize to his father, keeping the family rift from growing.
Unfortunately, he is convinced that the death of Diana may very well be the death of Harry’s relationship with the Royal Family. With uncharacteristic bluntness, the former butler described Diana’s death as ensuring that healing the rift has become a “lost cause.” Still, Harry might take comfort in the fact that Diana’s blood relatives continue to support him, carrying on his mother’s gentle and supportive spirit long past her death.
