We often speak about the Royal Family as this large and homogenous unit. In reality, though, many members of this famous family are very different from one another. And some of the most interesting royals are the ones that you hear the least about.
For example, there’s no shortage of headlines featuring Prince William and Kate Middleton due to the simple fact that they are the future King and Queen of England. However, their three children are often more interesting than their big-name parents, especially now that classes at Lambrook School have brought out their very distinctive personalities.

Kate worries about her own karate kid
Sports really run in William and Kate’s family. After all, he grew up playing rugby and she grew up playing field hockey. Now that their children are attending Lambrook, they are discovering the joy of sports for themselves. For example, Charlotte has developed a passion for both gymnastics and soccer. But it is the chosen sport of her older brother that has the family in a tizzy.
According to royal expert Neil Sean, Prince George now has a passion for martial arts and it is worrying Kate. The lad is apparently learning martial arts from the family nanny, but he seems to like the idea of these skills giving him independence when he is at school. “He’s now very keen to undertake martial arts training, with of course the support of his father … He likes the idea of, you know, basically looking after himself.”
Sean claims that George’s parents are a bit split on this issue. Kate is understandably worried about George getting hurt while working on his kung-fu skills. William, meanwhile, likes the idea of his son building character and becoming more independent.

An adjustment period of Prince George
Aside from learning how to kick butt with martial arts on the side, it sounds like Prince George (himself the future King of England) has had something of an emotional rollercoaster during his time at Lambrook. At first, he had trouble adjusting, and Grazia reports that one parent really empathized with William. “He told me he’d just dropped Prince George off at school and he didn’t want to go. Sounds a bit like mine really.”
Reportedly, George settled in after that and became one of the more popular students, something which also happened at his previous school. However, he still has the occasional clash with classmates, and he isn’t afraid to throw his royal weight around when he has to. For example, Katie Nicholl wrote in her book The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth’s Legacy and the Future of the Crown that the young man once had a blistering retort to a campus rival: “My dad will be king so you better watch out.”
Careful, George. You may lose those newfound friends with this kind of attitude!
Royals by any other name
One weird thing about royals that most people don’t stop to think about is that they don’t really use last names. This ended up creating logistical issues for William and Kate’s children once they began attending school. For example, they originally used “Cambridge” as their last name, but after Queen Elizabeth died, they began using “Wales” as their last name. For example, the oldest kid went from telling people his name was “George Cambridge” to telling people his name was “George Wales.”
Incidentally, going by the last name “Wales” is the exact same thing that William and Harry did when they were in school. What’s the point of all this, though, when this move does nothing to disguise who these famous children really are? Since they don’t have real last names, the alternative would be to refer to the kids as “High Royal Highness” followed by their names. And let’s be real: that’s no way to make friends, even in a school that forbids anyone from having best friends (no, really!).

Charlottes hates tests but is doing fine
As for Princess Charlotte, her school experience has been something of a mixed bag. As Hello! reports, Prince William confided in some fellow parents that his daughter was dreading some upcoming testing. “Yes, she’s got tests — she wasn’t looking forward to it this morning … Hopefully it’s all gone well.”
Of course, one reason she is likely dreading some tests is that she won’t settle for anything less than top marks. One royal source confided to Us Weekly that Charlotte “is top of her class at reading. She actually enjoys doing homework.”
Fortunately, it’s not all work and no play for the young princess. She is reportedly very popular at school, owing in large part to how kind she is even to her younger classmates.
