Kate Middleton’s reputation has experienced a serious boost in the wake of “Megxit.” After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their royal duties, the people of England looked to Prince William and Kate Middleton as calm and stable influences.
But what if there was something deeper and darker beyond the peace and stability of Kate Middleton? Once you scratch the surface, there are many shady things about this famous royal that everyone seems to just ignore!
Making Meghan Markle cry
Who made whom cry? That has been the question at the center of a story about Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle.
Back in 2018, The Sun published an article alleging that Meghan Markle made Kate Middleton cry during a bridesmaid fitting. And for years, critics used this incident as Exhibit A that Meghan Markle was entitled and pushy.
However, during Meghan and Harry’s bombshell interview with Oprah, Markle claims in reality it was Kate who made her cry. “The reverse happened,” she said. “And I don’t say that to be disparaging to anyone because it was a really hard week of the wedding and she was upset about something.”
Meghan was quick to point out that Kate apologized for this incident. But it caught Meghan’s attention that nobody tried to correct The Sun after the false story went public. “I would hope that she would’ve wanted that corrected,” she continued. “And maybe in the same way that the palace wouldn’t let anybody else negate it, they wouldn’t let her.”
Regardless of Kate’s intentions, this incident marked a “turning point” for Meghan’s relationship with Harry’s family and formed the foundation of Megxit.

Questionable vacations
One quality every citizen has is how those in power are spending their taxpayer dollars. And a few years ago, Prince William and Kate Middleton were spending money on some very questionable trips and vacations.
According to the Daily Mail, the couple took a vacation without their son George (who was only seven months old) in 2013. They visited the swanky Cheval Blanc Randheli Hotel in Malé, better known as the capital of the Maldives. For protection, the couple was “accompanied by several taxpayer-funded Scotland Yard detectives.”
As for Prince George, he stayed with his grandparents. But he, too, had “his own Scotland Yard security detail.” And all of this was shortly after Kate Middleton took a family vacation with George while surrounded by “a full group of police bodyguards.”
Naturally, this led to major protests by taxpayers who had to foot the bill.
A rural rival rumor
Kate Middleton and the rest of the Royal Family basically invented the “stiff upper lip.” So when it comes to potential scandals, we usually have to read between the lines.
In some cases, the “scandal” may be nothing more than a rumor. For example, Marie Claire reports that in 2019, a rumor started swirling that Prince William was having an affair with Kate’s “rural rival” in Norfolk: Rose Hanbury, the Marchioness of Cholmondeley.
Although there is reportedly no truth to the rumor, it was enough to cause permanent damage to Middleton’s friendship with Hanbury. According to Marie Claire, Middleton allegedly had Hanbury “phased out” of her friend group.
Marie Claire points out that a source close to this royal couple shared the effects of the rumors with Us Weekly. “[They] are doing a great job at getting their marriage back on track again,” that source claimed. “It’s not unusual to have a few hiccups in a marriage, especially after eight years, and Kate and William are no different. They’re still going strong. Regardless of their ups and downs, they love each other dearly and their kids are the most important thing in their lives.”
Seems like a happy ending for everyone. Well… everyone except Rose Hanbury!

Reading Kate’s body language
Every parent will tell you the same thing: it’s one thing for others to insult you. But it’s another thing entirely for someone to insult your child.
But that seems to be what happened when Kate Middleton attended the christening for Meghan Markle’s son Archie. Once the portrait of the christening was made public, body language experts immediately noticed some tension with Kate.
In fact, expert Judi James dished to the Daily Mail that Kate looked “ready to flee.” This is especially noticeable compared to other royals in attendance. As James noted, “With a very relaxed and jolly-looking Camilla down one end of this pose, Kate sits at the other looking oddly self-diminished and prim, with her arms pulled into her torso and a part-smile on her face.”
While you may not put much stock in body language analysis, many also noted that Kate worse the very same Collingwood Pearl earrings that Princess Diana originally wore to Prince Harry’s christening. This seemed like it may have been an attempt to step on Meghan’s big moment with memories of Diana.
Royal butler dishes on Kate
Part of why it is difficult to know details about the Royal Family is that they try to keep all the drama behind closed doors. But sometimes, those behind closed doors let us know what is really going on.
Kate Middleton found this out firsthand when Princess Diana’s former royal butler Paul Burrell offered an interview to 9 News. There, he devastated Kate in the most British way possible: “[Kate’s] a lovely, lovely girl… she totally adores her husband, and they’re devoted to each other,” he said. “But, that extra something, which you would call the ‘X-factor,’ the magic quality — charisma, it’s not there.”
Not exactly a ringing endorsement of Kate Middleton!

A big part of Megxit
To this day, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepping down from their royal responsibilities is one of the biggest dramas to happen to the Royal Family. After all, Meghan alleged that someone in the family worried about the skin color of her unborn son. And she also blamed the Royal Family for not intervening in the relentless press smears that nearly drove her to suicide.
In her own way, Kate felt the burden of these accusations more than other members of the Royal Family. While Meghan didn’t name any names for some of the major accusations, she specifically mentioned Kate Middleton in the context of the bridesmaid incident.
In other words, Kate Middleton was the only named royal in an interview that made the entire Royal Family look terrible. And the implication here is that Meghan Markle’s issues with Kate go far beyond the alleged incident where Kate made Meghan cry.
