After months of drama and rumors, Kim Kardashian filed for divorce from Kanye West in February. While they were together for nearly seven years, it became clear that there were too many disagreements for them to overcome.
Some of their biggest disagreements have to do with raising their children: North, 7, Saint, 5, Chicago, 3, and Psalm, 22 months. While both Kanye and Kim are committed to their children’s health and happiness, they have very different ideas about how to raise those children.
Here are the four key disagreements Kanye and Kim have about their children.
How many children to have
Over the course of their marriage, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian had four children together. And one of the biggest differences between the couple was how many children they should have!
In October 2019, Kim told E! News, “Being a mom of four is definitely really hectic but it feels so complete. I’m obsessed with my kids. I’m obsessed with being a mom of four. I’m definitely done though and feel four is my limit.”
Kim was also concerned about being able to give each child enough attention if she had Kanye had more kids. “I believe that everyone needs so much attention and I need to be available to give it to everyone.”
But just days after Kim said she was “definitely done” having children, Kanye went on The Late Late Show and said he wanted more kids.
“[I want] seven kids,” he told James Corden. “The richest thing that you can have is as many children as possible.”
Given that Kanye appeared to be clapping back at Kim on television, it’s no wonder Kim eventually filed for divorce after he publicly discussed their private lives one too many times.

Where to raise the kids
One of the odder parenting differences between Kanye and Kim is where they intended to raise their children. Given their massive wealth and fame, you might expect these celebs wanting to live among the movers and shakers on the East or West coasts.
Kanye, however, had other ideas. He actually fell in love with Wyoming and wanted to move the family there. In September 2019, Kim Kardashian told Jimmy Fallon, “My husband did just buy a ranch there. His dream and his vision is to move there.”
But this was never Kim’s passion. In the same Fallon interview, she admitted to the host, “I love L.A., so I envision summers, I envision some weekends [in Wyoming].”
Kim had previously explained she wouldn’t want to disrupt their children’s lives by moving away from Los Angeles in an April 2019 episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. “I don’t want to uproot them from all of their friends and their routine and their cousins and everything,” Kardashian said.
But if West is granted joint custody of the kids — which may be difficult for him — it looks like their children may be splitting their time between Los Angeles and Wyoming.
Allowing North to wear makeup
Of their four children, North is the oldest at seven years old. And she started experimenting with makeup early on, which became one more topic Kim and Kanye seriously disagreed on.
Kim Kardashian is the founder of KKW Beauty, and she liked to encourage North’s growing makeup curiosity by giving North some special products. As Kim told Refinery29 in 2018, “I already know North is into makeup for sure,” she said. “She had friends over this weekend and some of her girlfriends came and they were just all in her room, giving themselves makeovers. I was like, OK, she’s really, really into makeup. When companies send makeup and I have a lot, I’ll give it to her.”
Now, Kim did try to keep North from experimenting with lashes or dark lipstick. But all of this was a bridge too far for Kanye!
In an E! News interview in 2019, Kim said, “North is trying to get in on the makeup but she’s being blocked heavily because her dad has stopped all makeup for her until she is a teenager. It’s a big discussion, a big fight in the household right now but it is what’s best.”
While Kim took it pretty well, she made is clear that this was Kanye’s rule and not hers. “I think [Kanye] had it; he changed all the rules. So, it’s now no more makeup.”

How North can dress
In addition to North experimenting with makeup, she also began experimenting with fashion. And this created yet another issue on which Kim and Kanye were seriously split.
North ended up doing a photo shoot for WWD Beauty Inc. in February 2019 and even landed the cover photo. At the time, Kim Kardashian was very proud. She tweeted, “I’m seriously so proud of my Northie! She picked her looks and eyeliner color and is so involved and loves fashion & beauty so much so she has the best time at her WWD shoot.”
While Kanye didn’t hate that North was a fashion icon, he had to put his foot down regarding some of the looks she was serving up. In an October 2019 interview with Zane Lowe, Kanye admitted that his taste for what his daughter should and shouldn’t wear changed over the years.
“I don’t think North should wear crop tops just because I had her wearing a slip dress when she was two years old. I think and feel differently now, now that I’m Christian, now that I’m founder of a three-billion-dollar organization and married for five years.”
So, while Kanye and Kim remain devoted to their children’s happiness, they don’t always see eye-to-eye about how to achieve that happiness. And now that they are getting divorced, it seems unlikely they will ever agree on these matters.
