Barron Trump enjoys a really close relationship with his mother. As we noted before, the greatest evidence of this is that when Donald Trump won the 2016 election, Melania and Barron didn’t move into the White House right away. Instead, they lingered in Trump Tower back in New York. At the time, Melania stated that the reason for this was so that Barron could finish out the academic year rather than having to suddenly switch schools.
Melania understandably won brownie points with many supporters for putting her child ahead of her husband, even as Donald Trump became the most powerful person in the world. Later, political reporter Mary Jordan claimed that Melania stayed behind to negotiate a better prenuptial agreement with her husband. However, Jordan also claimed that the primary goal of the improved prenup was to ensure that Barron would be properly taken care of in the event of a divorce.
Either way, Melania went to the mat to fight for her son. Is it any wonder they have such a close relationship?

Who else does Barron Trump have a close relationship with?
Obviously, Barron Trump is close to his father and really close to his mother. What other family members has the young man really bonded with, though? Beyond his siblings, the youngest Trump has a surprisingly close relationship with his grandfather, Viktor Knavs. He is Melania’s father and, like all doting gramps, he loves to spend time with his grandson.
Previously, the two spent plenty of time hanging out together at Mar-a-Lago, though these moments were not captured on camera because Knavs likes to avoid media appearances (more on this soon). As for Barron, the only thing that could keep him from spending time with his grandfather is that he moved back to his old stomping grounds to attend school at New York University.
How Barron bonded with his grandparents
Barron Trump enjoys a great bond with his grandfather, and before that, he had a wonderful relationship with his grandmother, Analija Knavs. Sadly, she passed away in January 2024. The young man was obviously sad that she had died, but he could take comfort in the fact that they had had a great relationship when she was still alive.
How did Barron Trump develop such a close relationship with his grandparents in the first place? The short answer is that his grandparents made a point to always be involved in his life, frequently visiting the White House after Donald Trump’s 2016 election victory. After his 2020 election loss, they continued to visit their grandson at Mar-a-Lago. By visiting the young man frequently throughout his most formative years, they created the kind of bond with Barron that most grandparents would kill to have.

Melania’s parents always avoided the spotlight
The news about Barron Trump’s close relationship his grandparents may come as a surprise to many casual audiences. It may even come as a surprise to those who do their best to keep track of politics in general and the Trumps in particular. Why, then, did so few people know about Barron’s bond with his grandparents until recently?
For the most part, Melania’s side of the family generally prefers to stay out of the spotlight. We might not have seen him and his grandmother, Analija Knavs, in public very often, for example, but Melania confirmed that her son would frequently call his grandma and hold long conversations in her native Slovenian.
Viktor feels the same way, preferring to hang back and chat with his grandson when the cameras aren’t rolling. In fact, we wouldn’t even know about Barron’s bond with his grandparents if a source hadn’t recently disclosed their close relationship to the Daily Mail.
