Oscars 2021 Complete List of Nominations

The nominations for the Oscars 2021 are here, with some groundbreaking nominations and surprises.

David Fincher’s biographical drama “Mank” — starring Gary Oldman as “Citizen Kane” screenwriter Herman Mankiewicz — leads with 10 nominations, including Best Picture, Director, and Actor. Additionally, Amanda Seyfried picked up her first Oscar nomination for her supporting role in the film.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences made history by nominating two women in the Best Director category for the first time. Chloé Zhao is nominated for “Nomadland” and Emerald Fennell is nominated for “Promising Young Woman.” Only five women have previously been nominated in the category in the Oscars’ 93-year history and only one has won — Kathryn Bigelow for “The Hurt Locker” (2008).

On top of that, Zhao has set a record for most Oscar nominations received by a woman in a single year. She also received nominations as a producer, editor, and screenwriter in the Best Picture, Best Film Editing, and Best Adapted Screenplay categories.

Also of note, this year’s acting nominees are the most diverse ever, with nine out of 20 nominees being actors of color: Chadwick Boseman, Viola Davis, Andra Day, Riz Ahmed, Steven Yeun, Daniel Kaluuya, Lakeith Stanfield, Leslie Odom Jr., and Youn Yuh-jung. With her nomination for “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” Viola Davis has set a record for the most nominations ever received by a Black actress (four) and becomes the first Black actress to receive two Best Actress nominations.

The Academy Awards will air Sunday, April 25 at 8:30 p.m. ET / 5:30 p.m. PT on ABC.
