Elon Musk and Grimes have ended their three-year relationship, Page Six reports.
The 50-year-old SpaceX founder and the 33-year-old “Oblivion” singer share a one-year-old son named X Æ A-XII.
Musk revealed to Page Six that he and Grimes still “see each other frequently” and “still love each other,” but described their relationship as “semi-separated.”
“It’s mostly that my work at SpaceX and Tesla requires me to be primarily in Texas or traveling overseas and her work is primarily in L.A.,” he said. “She’s staying with me now and Baby X is in the adjacent room.”
Musk and Grimes’ last public appearance together was at the Met Gala earlier this month. Although Musk joined Grimes inside the event, the singer walked the red carpet alone. The event held some personal significance for the pair, as they made their debut as a couple at the Met Gala three years earlier.
But perhaps the first sign that all was not well for the couple appeared last weekend, when Musk was spotted attending a party thrown by Nicole Shanahan, Google co-founder Sergey Brin’s wife, without Grimes.
While Musk is busy with SpaceX and Tesla, Grimes is currently working as a judge for Fox’s new singing competition show Alter Ego, which premiered this week.
The “Delete Forever” singer, whose real name is Claire Boucher, gave birth to their son in May 2020. The baby made headlines for his unusual name, X Æ A-XII, pronounced “X-A-I-A Twelve,” which Grimes explained in a tweet.
X stands for “the unknown variable.” Æ stands for A.I. (artificial intelligence) or ai, the Japanese word for “love.” And A-XII is the roman numeral version of A-12, an aircraft. The couple could not use “A-12” on their son’s birth certificate because only alphabetical characters are allowed in the state of California.
In addition to Baby X, Musk shares five sons with ex-wife Justine Wilson: 17-year-old twins Griffin and Xavier and 15-year-old triplets Damian, Saxon and Kai. He was married to the Canadian author from 2000–2008.
Musk was also married twice to Westworld actress Talulah Riley from 2010–2012 and again from 2013–2016.
