Friends fans can look forward to a cast reunion on HBO Max. But star David Schwimmer has dropped a hint that there may be even more of a reason to get excited over this reunion.
It was previously announced that the reunion would simply gather the principal members of the cast together for an interview about the show.
However, according to The Daily Mail, David Schwimmer hinted at a reunion surprise in an interview for The Graham Norton Show set to air on Friday.
“Nothing is scripted, and we are not in character. We are all ourselves,” he told Norton. “Although there is one section of it that I don’t want to give away, but we all read something.”
Beyond that cryptic hint, Schwimmer didn’t give away any additional details about what was “one section” is all about. But this hint was enough to get major fans of the show speculating about the surprise.
This could be a brief section explaining where the different characters are in their lives all these years after the series finale. Fans want to know: did Monica and Chandler stick it out in the suburbs or come back to the big city? Did Ross and Rachel stay together, or are they on yet another break?
While Schwimmer’s hint has hyped fans up, most details of this event are still unknown. There were once rumors that Ellen DeGeneres would be the host. However, Schwimmer previously ruled out both her and Billy Crystal, with no further hints as to the actual identity of the host.
However, it was revealed earlier this week that the reunion will be filmed on a recreated set of Monica Geller’s apartment. Original set decorator Greg Grande shared an image of the set Wednesday on Instagram.
He captioned the post: “Sssh! Somethings happening, deja vu… coming alive once again! ❤️ #friends #monicasapt #friendsreunion” [sic].
Originally, the Friends reunion was going to premiere in May 2020, but the pandemic delayed the production. Now, the reunion is set to film on April 5.
The Friends reunion will premiere on HBO Max. A release date has not been announced.
