In their interview with Oprah on Sunday, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Harry revealed the gender of their second child: it’s a girl.
Now, a resurfaced interview with Meghan from six years ago reveals that she has a name in mind for her daughter. And it’s all thanks to a watch that she plans to gift to her daughter as a family heirloom.
In September 2015, Hello! Magazine asked Meghan if she has anything in her jewelry collection that holds a “special meaning” for her.
“I’ve always coveted the Cartier French Tank watch,” Meghan said. “When I found out Suits had been picked up for our third season — which, at the time, felt like such a milestone — I totally splurged and bought the two-tone version.”
So, how do we know what Meghan is planning to name her daughter? The revelation comes from a personalized engraving Meghan had put on the watch.
“I had it engraved on the back, ‘To M.M. From M.M.’ and I plan to give it to my daughter one day,” Meghan revealed. “That’s what makes pieces special, the connection you have to them.”
Not only does the interview divulge that Meghan has always wanted a daughter, she’s also had a name in mind for some time that starts with the letter M.
Interestingly, it seems she also once planned for her daughter to keep her own last name Markle by engraving the watch with the last initial M.
But her idea that her daughter would have the initials M.M. is surprisingly prescient. Her daughter will indeed have a last name that starts with M — Mountbatten-Windsor.
Harry and Meghan’s first child, son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, will turn two years old on May 6.
Previously, the Sussexes revealed that the inspiration for their son’s name (as well as for their charity Archewell Foundation) came from the Greek word “arche,” which means “source of action.”
“It became the inspiration for our son’s name. To do something of meaning, to do something that matters,” they said in a statement.
Now, the happy couple feels that their family will finally be complete when their daughter arrives.
“Having any child, any one or a two would have been amazing, but to have a boy and then a girl… now we’ve got our family and we’ve got four of us,” Harry said in their recent interview with Oprah.
The couple also revealed they don’t plan on having any more children following the birth of their daughter.
“Two is it,” Meghan said.
