Barack Obama was one of the most popular presidents in American history, serving two terms before retiring into a life of wealthy seclusion. He wasn’t popular with everyone, though, including current President Donald Trump. In fact, Trump helped spread some of the crazier rumors about Obama, including the insane rumor that Obama was not actually an American (hence the repeated calls to provide a birth certificate as proof of citizenship).

Rumors about the Obamas being expelled due to racist statements
We basically got to see Sasha and Malia Obama grow up in front of us while their dad served two terms as president. That meant we got to see how well-behaved they were at pretty much all times. However, that didn’t keep a bizarre rumor from spreading that claimed that these sisters were once expelled for issuing racist rants.
Now, this rumor, like almost all rumors concerning these gals, had nothing to substantiate it. The Sasha-centric version of this tall tale generated from the now-dead website Conservative Columns, which claimed she told the principal of Martin Luther King Jr. high school (where she never attended) “You wouldn’t have me in here if I was white. I’m getting sick of you crackers.”
The Malia-centric version of this rumor was spread by Only Politics, which claimed she was expelled from Harvard by Dean Cain Markholder for giving a racially-charged speech with the name “A World Without Whites.” However, there’s no record of such a dean ever working at the school of Malia ever giving such a speech.

Rumors about Sasha and Malia’s parentage
Pop quiz! Where do you go to find the craziest takes on just about everything, including politics? That’s right: Facebook. And one old post on the popular social media platform made a truly insane claim about the Obamas that took hold among conspiracy theorists: “Anita Blanchard & Martin Nesbitt are the REAL parents of Sasha and Malia.”
There’s literally nothing to substantiate this bizarre rumor, but the names in it were chosen for a reason. Nesbitt is a family friend of the Obamas and Blanchard is the doctor who delivered Sasha and Malia into the world. This was meant to lend credence to the idea that these two “rented” the children out to Barack and Michelle Obama. As for us, we’d be happier to rent a better class of fearmongering rumor!
Was Sasha Obama shown the door at Reagan Washington Airport?
These days, the idea of a crazy rumor going viral because of Facebook seems downright quaint. That’s because we live in an age of advanced technology, and most of the craziest claims are powered by AI. This was the case of a December 2024 incident in which the YouTube channel Beneath the Mask released a video purportedly showing Sasha Obama having to leave Reagan Washington Airport because the staff didn’t think a Black woman would have a business ticket.
Simply put, all of this is crazy, from the story of overt airline racism to the claim that Barack Obama had to make peace with the airline and that Sasha was now on a fiery crusade to reform the transportation industry. There is nothing to corroborate any of this…just a crappy AI-generated video with an equally crappy AI narrator. Some still believed the story, though, which is proof that artificial intelligence will always be a few steps ahead of those with no intelligence whatsoever.

Does Sasha Obama know something about her parents getting divorced?
Relatively speaking, there are few pictures of Sasha Obama floating around. When she was still in the White House, her parents took special care to insulate their youngest child from the paparazzi. Now, she’s out and living her own life, and while pictures are still few and far between, it doesn’t take people very long to get weird about Sasha once they glimpse a new pic.
For example, an X user named @dom_lucre posted a picture of Sasha after she got out of class, and the only real emotion seems to be annoyance about lugging all those books around. But the user captioned his post with, “Sasha Obama was spotted in Los Angeles appearing to be depressed as she was seen for the first time since parents divorce talk.”
Needless to say, there is nothing to substantiate the claim that the Obamas are getting divorced. But if these users couldn’t pair candid photos with BS claims, what would they even do with their time?
