On Monday, Kim Kardashian caused a stir with her look at the 2021 Met Gala: a head-to-toe black Balenciaga ensemble, including a full face mask.

Now, she’s addressing one particular moment from the event that went viral: a photo of her sister Kendall Jenner, 25, looking at her with a puzzled expression on her face.

“Kendall was calling my name and I couldn’t see who it was but I saw the outline of her sparkly dress 😭,” Kardashian revealed on her Instagram Story.

Kardashian received backlash online by some who criticized her outfit, which included a Balenciaga T-shit dress and spandex leggings, for not fitting the Met Gala’s theme “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.”

However, the 40-year-old Skims mogul took to Instagram on Tuesday to defend her look, writing, “What’s more American than a T-shirt head to toe?!”

Kardashian’s outfit was designed by Balenciaga creative director Demna Gvasalia. According to TMZ, Kardashian was introduced to Gvasalia by her estranged husband Kanye West.

Kardashian wore Balenciaga outfits at two listening parties for West’s latest studio album Donda, including an haute couture Balenciaga wedding dress at Chicago’s Soldier Field in August.
