The world was shocked when news broke that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West would be getting a divorce. But things are looking very serious now that Kim Kardashian has started talking to the powerful and prominent divorce attorney Laura Wasser.
Rumors that this power couple would be getting divorced have been swirling for weeks, ever since the holidays. An insider told Us Weekly that the two had “a big fight in early December.” That same insider claims that “Kanye blew up at Kim and she was really upset. Things between them don’t seem to have healed since that.”
Of course, it’s easy to dismiss some of this as part of the standard celebrity rumor mill. But Kim Kardashian having talks with powerful divorce attorneys seems to make things official. Depending on who you talk to, this divorce has been in the making since well before the holidays.
Another source told Us Weekly last July that Kim was interested in a divorce from Kanye. What prompted such a drastic course? It all stems from comments that Kanye made during his brief, failed attempt to run as president.
During a presidential rally, Kanye West told the crowd that he had tried to convince Kim to abort their first child, North West. As he told the rally, “She had the pills in her hand… I almost killed my daughter.”
Later, Kanye would tweet and then delete that Kim was flying out “with a doctor to lock me up like on the movie Get Out because I cried about saving my daughter’s life yesterday.” He summed things up with, “If I get locked up like Mandela Y’all will know why.”
The incident proved to be the last straw for Kardashian when it came to the decision to divorce. According to a source speaking to Us Weekly earlier this month, “The comments about North and the abortion were the final confirmation. She will protect the children first, always.” They ultimately did not get divorced last year, but it seems that this incident really made Kim start planning for the future.
She has actually had Laura Wasser and her team on retainer for several months, which is all part of her plan for the future. As a source told Us Weekly, she is working with “her financial advisors to figure out an exit plan that would be best for her whole family.”
As for when the divorce will take place, the source said, “Kim has all of her assets and financials ready for when she decides to file officially. Friends thought she was going to file in September, but she’s holding out. That does not mean that everything behind the scenes is already done.”
