Over the last few decades, the line between “news anchor” and “celebrity” has only gotten thinner. Major TV journalists become celebrities in their own right. And it’s fair to say that they are the face of modern news.
But what if that face was unrecognizable? As it turns out, many of the most famous TV news anchors are completely unrecognizable without makeup. Just be warned: you’ll be shocked when you see some of these transformations!
Meghan McCain
The daughter of John McCain, Meghan McCain is a former Fox News contributor and current commentator on The View for ABC. Like some of the other anchors on our list, she posted a selfie with no makeup to her Instagram page. Seeing this transformation, we know that her makeup skills are no joke.

Hoda Kotb
Hoda Kotb is famous for many things: she is a co-anchor on The Today Show and a Dateline correspondent when she isn’t busy writing bestselling books. She joined fellow host Kathie Lee Gifford in appearing with no makeup. She was also very honest about her fear, saying, “I feel naked… I’m 45, I feel self-conscious.” Nonetheless, this bold move seriously impressed her fans!
Rachel Maddow
It seems Rachel Maddow needs no introduction. As the host of The Rachel Maddow Show, she is arguably the most prominent face of MSNBC. In an interesting flex, she appeared with no makeup on her Instagram page. While the goal may have been to normalize skipping makeup, it left fans debating just how much makeup the famous journalist uses in the first place before appearing on her show.

Dana Perino
As a journalist, Dana Perino has done it all. She has been George W. Bush’s press secretary, a co-host of Fox’s The Five, and the host of her own show on Fox, The Daily Briefing with Dana Perino. Like many of the journalists on our list, she isn’t afraid to pose with no makeup on Instagram for the entire world to see. Giving the world a glimpse of this kind of “before and after” takes guts, but what else would you expect from a journalist of this caliber?
Megyn Kelly
Megyn Kelly is used to the spotlight. After all, she is most famous for shows with her name in the title, including The Kelly File on Fox News and NBC’s Megyn Kelly Today. She gained additional fame (and infamy) for spats with Donald Trump, so we know she has plenty of bravery. And she cemented that brave rep by posting a no-makeup selfie to Facebook, proclaiming that it was “the natural me!”

Ann Curry
Ann Curry pretty much defines “international journalist.” She is famous for being an NBC News anchor, a host for We’ll Meet Again on PBS, and her coverage of events in Darfur, Syria, and Southeast Asia. She hopped on The Today Show train to show “the real me.” She also had a sense of humor about it all, saying, “I’m glad to show it to you because you know, sometimes on the show, I feel like I wear enough makeup to frost a cake.”
Katie Couric
Katie Couric’s face is famous around the world. She has been an anchor for CBS Evening News, the host of her own talk show, and Yahoo’s global news anchor.
She’s also not afraid to show how her famous face is made. She posted her makeup routine on YouTube to show how she goes from a “scary” face to one we all know and love. Given this transformation, she definitely knows what she is doing!

Kathie Lee Gifford
What has Kathie Lee Gifford not done at this point? She is most famous for Live With Regis and Kathie Lee and has also hosted The Today Show and served as a correspondent for Good Morning America. She is also fearless, showing up to The Today Show with nothing but lip gloss.

Savannah Guthrie
Speaking of The Today Show, viewers frequently see Savannah Guthrie’s shining face. When she’s not busy being a host, an attorney, and a mother, she shares pics on Instagram, where we can see that, minus the makeup, she has a face full of freckles. Lori Stokes is best known for being an anchor on Good Day New York for Fox 5 and an anchor on Eyewitness News for ABC 7. She made a career change from writer to broadcast journalist, and we can’t blame her: she clearly knows how to rock makeup and let her inner beauty shine for the world.
