Celebrities With Hidden Diseases

You might think that celebrities have it all: Mansions, money, and fame. But not everything you see is golden. Celebrities are human, too, and many are afflicted with hidden diseases just like regular people.

Lady Gaga

Mama Monster has fibromyalgia, a condition that causes body-wide pain and extreme tiredness. As if that’s not enough, sufferers can experience muscle stiffness, poor concentration and sleeping issues. Lady Gaga has had to cancel concerts because of the pain and other symptoms from this disease.

Kim Kardashian West

This we-don’t-know-what-she’s-famous-for celeb and mom of two suffers from psoriasis. It’s a skin condition that presents as flaky, red, crusty patches of itchy skin all over the body. There is currently no cure for the condition, which can be exacerbated by stress.

Nick Jonas

This Jonas brother has Type I Diabetes, which he was diagnosed with when he was a teenager. Type I diabetics must take insulin shots and monitor their blood sugar levels daily and unlike Type II Diabetes (which can be caused by an unhealthy lifestyle) it is an autoimmune disorder.

Sarah Hyland

This star of the popular sitcom “Modern Family” suffers from kidney dysplasia, a condition where kidneys did not develop properly in the unborn baby. Hyland had a kidney transplant and is healthy, but must monitor her health for the rest of her life.

Lil Wayne

This bad-to-the-bone rapper suffers from epilepsy. It’s a brain disease that causes the sufferer to experience fits or seizures that range from barely perceptible ones to “Grand Mal” or aggressive, violent seizures. The rapper has had to cancel concerts due to his condition.

Lena Dunham

This “Girls” creator suffers from endometriosis, a condition where the lining of the uterus appears in other parts of the body. It can cause discomfort and debilitating pain and even result in fertility problems. In 2018, Dunham revealed she had undergone a hysterectomy in order to treat her endometriosis.

Jack Osbourne

This son of rocker Ozzy Osbourne suffers from multiple sclerosis, or MS. It’s a progressive disease that affects the brain and spinal cord and manifests with symptoms that include vision problems, balance and mobility. While it used to be considered life paralyzing, many patients continue to be active and healthy despite their diagnosis.

Venus Williams

Another autoimmune disease is Sjorgen’s syndrome. This condition causes problems with the body’s ability to produce fluids such as saliva and tears. It also renders sufferers with dry eyes, dry mouth, joint pain and fatigue.

Selena Gomez

This ex gal pal of Justin Bieber suffers from lupus. It’s an autoimmune disorder like Type I Diabetes and fibromyalgia. Symptoms include rashes, extreme fatigue and joint pain. Many autoimmune disorders have similar symptoms and can be misdiagnosed as a result.

Cher has suffered for decades from chronic fatigue syndrome. It’s often misdiagnosed and misunderstood. Its victims report intense and prolonged fatigue, often to the point of becoming unable to function effectively, with some sufferers becoming bedridden indefinitely.

Bella Hadid

This exotic supermodel contracted Lyme disease when she was bitten by a tick. Her mother, Yolanda, also suffers from the disease, which causes joint pain, nervous system problems, paralyzing fatigue and sometimes heart problems.

Catherine Zeta-Jones

Not all “hidden” diseases are physical. Catherine Zeta Jones is just one of the many celebrities-and non-celebrities- who’s been treated for bipolar disorder. Mental illness can often be misdiagnosed or undiagnosed altogether but public awareness is helping to reverse that.

So the next time you feel out of sorts, get checked out. It doesn’t hurt to play safe. If you have a hidden disease, at least you can be treated for it.
