If you’re a lover of all forms of coffee or just one of a group of people who all stubbornly insist that coffee can only be made one way, Kronotrop is a must see. Unlike many shops that only brew one or two ways, at Kronotrop you can get your coffee made by filter, Hairo, Moka pot, French press, Chemex, Aero or a more locally traditional Turkish method. They also offer a variety of locally grown and roasted beans combined with imports from all over the world. It’s a global coffee lover’s dream.
Opened in 1686, Café Le Procope is touted as the oldest coffee shop in the world. It’s also a café, so in addition to delicious cups of coffee you can order local favorites like coq au vin. Previous attendees of this famous bean spot include Thomas Jefferson, Voltaire, Benjamin Franklin and Rouseeau.
Another historic spot, Caffe Florian opened in 1720 and is considered the first shop to have allowed women to dine there alone. It was considered an eclectic spot where people of all classes and genders could meet and mingle, boasting patrons such as Goethe, Casanova, Lord Byron and Charles Dickens. It’s been continuously owned and operated in the same location ever since its establishment.
