It’s official: Donald Trump Jr. is getting divorced.
His wife Vanessa Trump filed for divorce in New York City on March 15, after 12 years of marriage. The divorce filing was uncontested, and the former couple released a joint statement detailing their respect for each other and need for privacy at this time.
The couple has five children and, according to friends, have been living separate lives. One source revealed to Page Six that the couple’s problems have existed for a long time, adding, “the couple had hoped to stay together during the president’s time in office, but it is getting harder to resolve their issues. He’s never there.”
Sources also note that the couple’s problems are personal and related to politics. No comments have yet been released about the split by the White House. On the day the divorce papers were filed, President Trump tweeted about various other topics, including the tragic and fatal bridge collapse in Miami.
Trump Jr. is the firstborn son of the president and his first wife, former Czech model and socialite Ivana Trump. They were married from 1977 to 1992, and have a second son, Eric, and a daughter, Ivanka.
The elder Trump introduced his son to Vanessa, a former model and accessory designer, at a fashion show in 2003. The pair got married in 2005 at President Trump’s lavish Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida.
According to Page Six, Trump Jr. appears to have undergone a personality change and is very busy in his travels. His comments about social issues, world issues, gun violence have concerned friends.
For example, he recently “liked” tweets that attacked a teenager who survived the Parkland, Florida school shooting on February 14. He liked another tweet that spoke to a link between mass murder and antidepressants.
Last Halloween, he wanted to teach his three-year-old daughter Chloe about socialism, so he claimed on Twitter he was going to take away half of her candy.
In a recent trip to India, he made what the public saw as a “tone-deaf” comment about poor people, praising them for still smiling despite their living conditions.
The junior Trump has also continued his big game hunting trips, which have piled on the attacks about animal cruelty.
All the scrutiny that focuses on people in the public eye has apparently taken its toll on Vanessa, a devoted mother to the couple’s five young children, especially after a frightening incident that took place last month.
Vanessa was rushed to the hospital and was admitted for a brief stay after she opened a letter addressed to her husband that was postmarked from Boston and sent to the Trump’s home in Manhattan.
The letter contained a threat to the family and a mysterious white powder which, according to the NYPD was non-hazardous.
Trump Jr. tweeted that he was thankful that his wife and children were unharmed, adding, “Truly disgusting that certain individuals choose to express their opposing views with such disturbing behavior.
On the day the divorce papers were filed, Trump Jr. posted an image of himself and his three-year-old daughter Chloe to Instagram with the caption “No matter what is going on bedtime cuddling with the smurf puts a Yuge smile on my face.”
Vanessa and Trump Jr. are both 40 years old and it was the first marriage for both. The elder Trump has gone through two high-profile divorces, first to model Ivana Trump in 1992 and again to actress Marla Maples in 1999.
Page Six reports that Vanessa has hired criminal defense attorney David Feureisen to represent her in the divorce, while Trump Jr. has not yet listed an attorney, although the divorce is expected to be a quiet affair despite the high-profile nature of the couple.
